Good afternoon fellow CoCKs,
Back in October I had the pleasure of attending the second of what will hopefully* continue to be annual gatherings at the CPK compound
*everyone that experienced minor physical or significant mental/emotional injury seems to have fully recovered 60 days later...
Along with a brain-melting selection of beers, succulent steaks, a knife show free from rock, paper, scissors and time spent with old and new friends, I enjoyed participating in the outlaw cut and was pleasantly surprised to place 3rd.
Prior to the f'ing Catalina wine-mixer being held, Nate posted the following regarding prizes for the Outlaw Cut:
The prizes are:
1. a knife of your choice from our table (max $500 value),
2. a DIY CPK where we give you materials to make your own blade and return it to us for final finishing and heat treat to be returned back to you for final assembly.
3. first choice of anything on the table during the knife show
The winner of the even gets first choice of what prize he wants, and so-on
After the 2x4 chips had settled,

		 SwarthyGnome
 and

		 yoko
came in first and second place (I think I got the order right, sorry if I forgot guys) and myself in 3rd. I don't remember what place they were in or which prize they chose, because I was so pumped to have the chance to design a DIY CPK knife.
Before I left the show Nate gave me some pieces of micarta for handle scales and directions to come up with a design and let him know what dimensions of steel I would want to use.
I considered many designs, some favorites were:
1. A true neck knife, that we could call "Little DEK"
2. A Bowie ground from a Behemother blank (dropped this because it would drive Nate into an early grave)
3. XL Skinner (still hope this gets made)
After all this deliberation, I settled on a design that drew from two of my favorite knives, the DEK1 and the CRK Insingo.

I love the comfort and ergonomics of the DEK handle, and I love the hollow grind, dropped point, gentle continuous curve and narrow tip of the Insingo.
So they had a (big) baby:

I'm excited about slicing with the long section of nearly straight edge, and piercing with the narrow tip, which on the insingo blade retains a lot of strength despite how distal the swedge is.

OAL will be similar to FK3

Point will be dropped very low compared to FK3, more like a modified wharncliffe:

Picture of the drafting table:

So that's the plan! Nate will be sending some steel my way in the next couple weeks, but I don't think I'll be able to start working on profiling until sometime in February with the way my schedule is (I have two kids 3 and under and my wife is working on her Master's).
Thanks for checking this out, stay tuned for more WIP updates!
- Steve
P.s. Let me know what you think this design should be called!
