I added the 2024 EDC - should this also be the EDC 1.2? Other names? Nathan the Machinist Nathan the Machinist
Yes

I think I'm done evolving that pattern, that's just the EDC. It is perfect, I see no further development. I'm not sure what I should call it.

I think for the CPK Encyclopedia that you should go ahead and add (1.2) to the right of 2024 EDC since the final version is often referred to as such and people often list it for sale as (1.2) in the CPK Marketplace.

I'm considering an integral construction of the frame, that key together to make a folder that does not look big and bulky, but is actually the most durable thing out there. Solid Delta 3V. I'll bet you a dollar you could park a truck on it and it will still open. That you can pry with it everyday for years and it will never develop play or damage from rough use.

A lot of overbuilt folders suffer from the limitations of their hardware and the pivot. A 5/16" pivot that is integral to the frame in hardened 3V, held with a large grade 5 titanium screw addresses the weakest point of the assembly.

I'm not looking for indestructible. I'm looking for something that will tolerate rough use without taking damage. Meaning you don't have to take care of it. You can just use it like a fixed blade and not worry about messing it up.

We have tight low hour high precision Mori Seiki machine tools that are illegal for export because they can be used to make things like centrifuges. It allows us to create features you would struggle with on something like a Haas. This gives me some flexibility in the design that you would not normally see applied to n assembly like this

So many folder designs are based on folks making things by hand with a drill press. These are artificial constraints here.

I can circular interpolate a level of roundness that my old lathe would struggle with

So I figure, fuck it. Let's make round things on the mill

Mark says I am retarded. Which is actually just a statement of fact.

However the design and engineering work is done, the tooling and components are here. I just need some machines open.

Really, I need another horizontal machining center that I can dedicate to this entire project.

We're bumping up against some space constraints here at the compound. Those of you that have been here know what I'm talking about

Right now I have this feeling like I just saw something secret, forbidden, and incredibly cool.
Like I stumbled into some hidden corner of the internet at exactly the right moment.

Awesome?
Awesome!
