'Tis a shame this thread was on page 3...

Got a couple of new pups - yes, we are crazy dog people.

Asha - a mystery mix that was solved by one of those DNA tests (Chow/Husky/Border Collie/Swiss White Shepherd). She is clever and agile - we have our work cut out for us.

Charlie - She is incredibly sweet - our favorite couch hippo.

Charlie and Asha were both rescues and were kennel mates (best buds) - had to bring them both home.

Here they are getting begging tips from the veterans...

Love that you got rescues I think that's brilliant. There is worrying rise of dognapping here since Covid lockdown, people wanting dogs for company. People are the problem as buying them creates a market. So watching my 2 boys like hawks. My Border collie though is a good guard dog and people are weary of him and his brother just goes along with it and puts on a good show.

I'm on my 2nd. Both rescues.

My first died at about 8 due to cancer about 4 months ago. Another needed rescuing from the akita rescue, and I sorely needed another dog. So I got bishop.

Ironically, I tried to change his name to Odin, but at 2yo he wasn't having it. So bishop it is.
I’m sorry to hear of your loss :-( I am glad to hear of your friend Bishop :-) Be happy Odin didn’t stick, cause I think it goes to their head lol. Odin really thinks who he is lol.

Thank you. He was a very special dog.

He was what set me down the path of being an akita guy. I got him because I wanted a big guard dog for my wife when I traveled. Breed traits suggested the akita was the dog for me. Thought it would be a normal dog- human relationship, which is good....... but an akita bonded to you that knows it's pack status...... lots of personality, lots of affection, and both of them would crawl through burning glass shards if I told them to (I've never tested this, never would, it's just an analogy to illustrate a point).

It's hard to explain. But for example, I used to take Khan to home depot. The checkout lady would give him a treat. He'd take it very gently. Then set it on the floor. Because I didn't give it to him, he didn't trust it. I could pick up that same treat and he'd eat it with fervor.

Just a special breed, but only for experienced, confident owners.

They sound like amazing animals and great best friends :-) :-)

I’ve always wanted an Akita. Maybe down the road a bit. Odin keeps me busy and I’m considering a big relocation. So possibly after that has settled.

Have them meet on neutral ground. Get a male, female akitas are....... dirty fighters.

If Odin has any aggression and isn't willing and able to back it up, or isn't willing to accept a secondary pack spot to the new dog...... walk away.

Akitas have long memories, have zero fear when they decide to fight, and are absolutely devastating fighters. Saw a news story where 2 pit bulls ran into someone's yard and went after the homeowner. Homeowner's akita jumps in, kills both, gets a minor cut.

Not trying to wave you off, but you need to know an akita is kinda a walking, barking, self directing gun. Great friend, totally safe if handled right...... but not something you can be complacent with.

I agree with that and it’s one of the reasons I mentioned down the road. I had a Rottweiler , large female. Went through those stages as I had her along with labs. But I got her and one lab as pups. The older Lab took them both under his wing. My rott went duck , pheasant hunting lol. It would make so many people laugh seeing her put up a bird :-) But she was a true rott and that always kept me on offense. Never worried about her, but other strange aggressive dogs, Or the idiot human. But anyways I just love dogs and a rescue would also fit me just fine. I also have the first pheasant that she put up. I had it mounted and I swear that dog knew it was hers :-) :-)

Perfect! Are you one of those that makes a plan where everything goes then executes said plan or do you get everything in there and hunt for what you need? Have fun either way and let me know when your set.
More like make a plan then everything winds up where it wants to anyway...the engraving and anodizing stuff will stay accessible;). I'm probably going to setup in the basement for that "clean" type work, and get the "dirty" shop setup in the garage once we're mostly settled and unpacked.
