CPM-10V Steel - History, Properties, and How to Heat Treat

I own the spiderco farid in cpm 10v and absolutely love it. Pricy knife but I would not hesitate to buy another if thy still made them.

Great discussion! I'm thinking I better mostly pre grind my 10v. I don't really want to as I want to chisel grind some/grind folder blades and that rarely works all that well pre heat treat.

If you are ok with course scotch rite finishes, good grinding technique will get you there. If you want a fine finish, take it to final dimensions, hand sand, and heat treat. Only a masochist would hand sand these steels post heat treat.

My 24 grit belts at full tilt might do the trick then I bet. Much appreciated!

24 grit belts ................ I have piece of sandpaper in P24 grit and it look scary  Can you compare them with 40 grit ?How much faster they remove steel and how much they last compared to 40 grit ?Would 40 belt clear easy scratches from 24 grit ? I only use/have 40 grit belts in my shop ....... I know that it is personal experience /we all grind in different way/ But i would really like to hear what you think.I can order only pack of six belts here so i need some information :)

The grit is huge! I made a bunch of handles to hold things because of this, a few weeks ago a new one took the entire tip of my thumb right off. So be careful! They fling big grit too.

They remove very fast especially with tough phenolics like old micarta that clog other belts. Same on bevels. I don't worry too much about cleanup and just use these to hog metal, try not to get close to final dimensions. I go straight from 24 to 80 grit.

I started using these for a brushed finish then found out they were good for all sorts of stuff. Advanced level only, I have to be on my tip toes.
