CPM 154 or 154 cm

I think the CPM-154 in my Kershaw Blur is far superior to the 154CM in my Benchmades. Don't get me wrong though, I love the Benchmades, they get crazy sharp at the risk of being a bit prone to rolling. The CPM-154 Blur is easier to sharpen than S30V and a bit harder. It hasn't chipped like S30V either. It's a nice one.

The Ats-34 I've used was less stain resistant but harder and tougher than 154cm. It's a bear to sharpen.

the steel as it exists in the hands of the end user is a combination of alloying content, foundry manufacturing quality, final heat treatment, and finishing procedures. On paper, ATS34 and 154CM are the same composition.

So, there is some but it's unintentional. I guess both versions were right in their way. I'll remove V again, and update notes again.

P.S. Out of curiosity, how can V be residual? Is it used in manufacturing process somehow or residual form the iron ore?

Glad someone started this post.

I am getting tired of seeing dealers and private sellers advertising CPM154 blades that may, ( or may not), be 154CM.

Unless it states it on the blade, I'm not purchasing any "CPM154" bladeware.

It's very rare to see a production knife with CPM 154.

Mostly custom makers use it.

Off the top of my head I know that the buck 110 and Gen 5 have it, and I believe that Bark river uses it too. But that's all I know of. The buck 110 heat treated by Paul Boss is simply AMAZING!!!..... Great stuff.

Kershaw also has 2 Blurs with CPM 154.

1670OD (CPM-154 Olive Drab)
1670BOR (CPM-154 Burnt Orange 300pcs)

The Blur ended up being the original Mule. There aren't many steels it hasn't been made in compared to most designs.

I would like to see something like a Military or Para 2 in CPM 154 at about 61-62 Hardness.

I know I am dreaming, but you know how it is. :D

I got a Burke Production Rockstar a while back which uses CPM 154. I believe his other knives are the same also.
