CPM 154 vs A2

I'm a bit confused . A CPM because of it's carbide structure should be able to take a sharper edge ! Also because of the finer carbides CPM should be tougher . Are you talking about different HT What's the story ?.

I have a few folders in CPM 154 as that is a popular steel for makers
none of them can take an edge like any other high carbon steel IMO.

except for maybe AEB-L in the kitchen, I still don't consider any stainless blade as for serious cutting.

CPM 154 is tough, stainless, easy to sharpen, and holds a good edge. Both a great choices, but I prefer 154. That being said I have never owned a Bark River knife. I don't know how those steels are from them.
A2 is tougher. but a well HT'd 154 should handle lots of abuse.
OR, you should go with the KING, IMHO, and get CPM 3V!

7 year old thread, so the op is now 67........

might have been better to start a new thread on the topic as im sure the op made his choice and got 7 years of experience with either maybe both steels.

Tell you what these two steels imho are neck and neck for being the best bang for your buck . I have to give it to 154 though ,just an all-time beast. I've never been able to get any stainless quite as sharp either.

A2 is my go to for most custom orders.

Gotcha ,I'm guessing 3v is pretty popular nowadays?

Not really. I've only made one knife in 3v. I use a lot of (cpm)D2, S7, CPM154/154cm, Z-finit, Spectrumwear, CPMS110V...

I know I'm forgetting some...

CPM 154 steel is the best steel for knives. CPM 154 steel is the steel that the maker and inventer of Magnacut was trying to beat when making his MagnaCut. He has said this with his own mouth. If CPM 154 steel is not the best , then he would have been focusing on another steel to beat with his MagnaCut. And why is CPM 154 steel the best steel there is ? For the only reason a steel takes the tilte of being the best “BALANCE” “BALANCE” “BALANCE” repeat this 100 times so that you can MK ULTRA this absolute truth into your head. And still today I don’t believe that MagnaCut is better than CPM 154 steel. MagnaCut news has not been to favorable lately , plus it’s a new thing , which has not been tried and tested like the rest of the steels we have had available so for long now. So stop following the trend the system of things wants you to follow. It looks like everyone is a CPM 3V steel worshipper, and this is because this is what they want you to buy. Wake up!!

My college aged daughter was 4 when this thread was started lol
For camping knives I really like A2

Take a step back from the keyboard. Take three deep breaths. Then read for a spell instead of posting overly excited gibberish.
