CPM-3V Pocket Fighter - Work in Progress

I'm quite please so far. I think after the handle is addressed this puppy will be a winner in my books. here's a pic of handle: IMG_2336.jpg

No finger grooves/sculpting. This knife is REALLY light and fast in hand (not mine but I have a similar one)

Thanks guys!

I am tempering these as I write this, here they are after quench.

For heat treat I plate quenched with 1" thick Aluminum plates after a 30 minute soak at 1950 F, once they were cool I took them directly into sub zero (dry ice/denatured alcohol) before temper. After this first temper they will get another sub zero cycle then one more temper. I should get a point or two extra hardness with no sacrifice in toughness with this procedure, CPM-3V is some great steel!

tight dude! :) Makes me think of Matt Lamey fighters a bit too :) Keep it up!

One of my two favorite big knives is CPM-3V  ; the other is D-2 .

But I must say:

:( Don't like these.... :grumpy:....don't like these knives @ all.

Because they're too far away, and they don't belong to me. ;)

JesusHPelosiOnACrutch; you just keep gettin' better'n'better, Daniel!

Dan do you think a triple quench would be good? how do you plan to finish the surface as 3V could pit instead of rust.
I love the shape!

Thanks! I don't think a triple quench would work with CPM-3V but I have to say it was a somewhat involved heat treat with the sub zero and all. I'll be doing a combination of hand and belt finishing on these, they should be somewhat pit and rust resistant that way for a carbon steel. The shape is a new favorite of mine, look out for more in the future.

Daniel, I can't quit lookin' at these...:D By the way, what are the specs on these?

:D Thanks, they are about .227 thick and average 8" long. I may put one of them up for sale, 2 are spoken for. I have a larger one in W2 tool steel in the works as well, I think it is about 9" long and .280" thick.

It's on!

I just ordered some Crucible CPM154 and double black canvas micarta for a micro batch! :D

Guys - the current fixed blade batch and then the folders are my top priorities... these won't even be for sale but look out for more info soon!

A black Cerakote blade would be sooooo wicked!
