CPM-3V vs M4 vs K390 for Katana??

5160 or 8670 are both a better steel choice for sword. The extra wear resistance of vanadium tool steel has almost no benefit on how sword cut and also add difficulty in sharpening.

CPM 3V Delta all day. In my conversations with Dan Keffeler he’s told me several stories about destructive testing on his CPM 3V Delta blades. He and Peters HT worked through figuring out the perfect heat treat and intentionally wrecking blades was part of getting there. When it comes to being obsessed with cutting performance Dan is in the mad scientist category. He is constantly testing and refining, testing and refining, testing and refining. He’s nuts. But I trust his conclusions. And the sword he made me is on another level. It’s huge... but still super light and really well balanced.

Not only is Dan in mad scientist category, he's also really funny! 😆
