Danny - Most of Spyderco's steel are produced to order. These exotic steels are not kept in inventory of steel makers. Crucible says they will continue to make up our 440V to order. We made a "Q" model with 420V that said CPM420V in the blade (for Crucible). The steel has some obvious advantages and some production problems as well. We are still testing CPM products. It took us a long time to develop the ginding wheels to be able to effectively grind CPM-440V in production. This type of research is expensive and time consuming. Others following have an easier time as they can order "the same grinding wheels that Spyderco uses on their 440V". Good for the industry overall, but expensive and time consuming. We'll continue to play with 420V in knives before we will know for sure if it does it all for us.
