CPM 4V "coming soon"?

I was just browsing the Crucible website for data sheets and saw "CPM 4V" on the list. All you get when you try to download the datasheet is "coming soon" so I assume it's not actually available yet. Given how well 3V performs it would be fantastic to get something similar with a bit more wear resistance.

I wonder if Sal or someone else with connections could give up some specifics?

Tough, and wear resistant. Sounds good to me. We could have some exciting mules coming up.

Hi Monster,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Many of our steels are the result or our customer's requests.

Woah... Based on that info, I'm thinking that 1V may be the way to go for a "Tuff" sprint run...

See what I did there...? Come on Sal, bring us the Tuff and put this endless misery away!

OHMY, 1V supposedly doesn't make good knives. I've heard different things as to why. I believe Jerry Hossum tried it and found it rolled badly or something similar. It's in one of his posts in his forum, pretty old.

That's interesting. I hadn't heard that, but I wasn't being really serious. I'd take a Tuff in well HT'd 440A at this point. :)

sorry, O/T

Yeah, I'm looking forward to it too but I'd rather wait until everything was just right. Imagine the online tests this hard use knife will be put through. Any knife in this class is like an invitation to the ones who just have to prove how much more hard core they are than the knife. :(

Of course there are the people who look for flaws with microscopes attached to cameras.

There will be a lot of people with big bucks invested in their own idea of perfect knives who will have to prove why they were correct in buying what they bought. If they see a stronger knife somewhere they lose all faith in what they got and have to start over. It's a lot easier to just slate new products coming onto the market.

It sounds sort of cynical I suppose but I've seen it enough times.

:)

It seems to have higher wear resistance than A2, and A2 is good enough for me.

The reason it isn't good for knives is because the hardness shown isn't very high? - 57 HCR
