This is the last 4V knife I will make for testing that I am going to offer for sale. Jim Ankerson has one more I made for testing, but I am quite sure I will be keeping it. I really like the performance of this steel. It holds a very keen edge, is a very aggressive cutter, and has very good toughness to boot. This steel machines very similar to M4 and has edge holding close to that of M4.

This knife is sold.
Thanks all for looking.
Feel free to contact me if you are interested in getting a knife from 4V.

I looked up 4V and compared it other steel types, and it seems to be a lot like S30V without most of the chromium.
I suppose that leaves more carbon available for improving the hardening, and with less chromium it would be tougher at that higher hardness.
I'm looking forward to hearing more about this steel. Was it hard to find?

I don't know, Chris, you say this is the last one above, but wondering if you can be talked into another one like this?

I will most definitely be using more 4V. It is a very good steel. I have some more in the shop, and it will be added to my "keep in stock" list.
Shoot me an email at bigchriscustomknives@gmail.com.

It is described in my book from Niagara as a balance between 3V and M4. It has nearly the high toughness of 3V and close to the wear resistance of M4.
It was designed for heavy blanking operations where toughness was key, but an increase in wear resistance is required.
