CPM CruWear HRC?

What type of sharpening system did you get DRLyman? Just wondering. And if I were a betting man, I'd say gunmike1's explanation would fit very well. Knowing myself I'd have freaked out a bit at first too, haha.

I do all of my blades by hand just because I'm comfortable with it, for some reason I absolutely hate clamping any of my blades so I'm kind of stuck with what I do.

I've never tried hand sharpening. I'm too worried about screwing up my knife doing that. Maybe someday, though. Right now the only thing I do by hand is the stropping.
I went with the KME. Also bought the 100 grit stone and the set of the 6 lapping films. The lapping films should be here Saturday. Purchased the angle cube, as well. So far, I am loving it. What I used to think was a sharp blade is nothing compared to the results I'm getting from this. Up until now I have just been using the Sharpmaker.

i think the heat-treat of these steels are most important process in making a blade that will stand the test of time!and stay sharper then most, the CPM cruwear is about the hardest steel i have yet to own,as i always keep my eye on these things to compare steel to steel, but as stated somewhere hear!the trade off is you get chipping,i have none of this on my manix 2,but it seems at this point, its one of cpm better harder/steels.

That's awesome! It's always nice pushing that edge thinner and thinner until it's almost frightening, haha. I've read good things about the KME system so you should be in good hands. I think if I found the right set up I'd change my mind.

Definitely let me(and everyone else) know how your Manix sharpens up!

See that's great information! I've sharpened all sorts of different steel, from 5160 to M390, and it really does tell you a story about the steel and it's characteristics. I was personally hoping Spyderco ran this Manix 2's CruWear harder just for that extra boost of edge retention(I won't be prying with a folder).

I need to go around asking my neighbors to give me a bunch cardboard to dull my blade so I can finally get it on the stones, haha. So far my edge has held up very well, I whittled a bit, cut up some cardboard to burn, and cut a few zip ties, all of which didn't seem to cause my edge to dull so far. Pretty darn impressed.

I'll definitely post my results here. I'm not going to go crazy and reprofile the blade. This thing must have been sharpened by one of their robots, the grinds on it are perfectly even. I'm just going to touch it up and then see if I can get it to shine. Hoping for one of those beautiful mirror finishes.

Yeah the grinds on my Manix were perfect as well. They seriously knocked this knife out of the park. I usually try to stick to the factory angles anyway, unless they're way too thick for a the blade shape or something like that.

From what I read CruWear can be polished up without too much trouble, so that'll be fun haha.

I usually stick to the factory angle, too. I've only reprofiled one knife and that was because it wasn't even close to being even.
I'm really anxious to see how it comes out. I love the look of the mirror edges.

They do look great on just about every folder out there. I've just started to put them on my knives because of CTS-XHP. Now mine aren't the prettiest since I do them by hand and I don't use any polishing agents, I just use ceramic. It works, though haha.

Whatever works to get the job done and have the results you wanted. I have no experience doing it by hand, so I went with a guided system. It makes me feel better knowing that unless I do something really stupid, I'm not going to screw up any of my knives. A few are sprint runs and 2 are discontinued models. Now I'm wanting to put that edge on every knife I have.

Finally sharpened this on the KME. I needed to get the Beast stone to remove some of the metal to extend the edge to the back of the knife. Never had to do this before with other knives, so I'm glad a did some more research instead of fubaring the edge. So far, Spyderco is the only blade I've needed to use this stone with because of that. Looks like it's just a Spyderco thing. I've sharpened all of my CRK and Benchmades without any problems. Next will be the rest of my Spydercos and then my ZT knives. It definitely has been a learning experience for me but I am enjoying it and loving the results.
I am still using and very happy with this knife. No tarnishing of any kind on the blade. Now that the chip is sharpened out, I am anxious to see how it does and if it ever happens again.

That's good sign for the hardness, though. Maybe not so good for when the time comes for me to sharpen mine, haha.

Must be pretty high up there if it's that tough. Edge retention should be great. Hell, I know it is because I haven't even felt the need to sharpen my Manix yet and I've been cutting cardboard almost daily with it, among whatever else comes along.

That's some good information, DRLyman! Thanks for letting us know.

That's good to hear. Mine looks pretty now with that mirror edge, but will get scratched up fairly quickly with use.

I almost decided to stop using this knife when I saw they've been discontinued. Then I figured that there's no point in doing that. I buy knives to use, not sit in a drawer while I worry about resale value. That's the fun of owning them. The scuffs and marks they get on them over time can all tell a story.

I was surprised when I saw they were sold out. Super, super happy I got mine when I did. I haven't changed it as my EDC, though. It's just too damn awesome I don't think I could if I wanted to, haha.

I definitely wouldn't say no to a spare to keep pristine and pretty, but for now it'll stay right where it is, in my pocket haha.

Mine is now back in my pocket after getting sharpened. After I noticed it, that little chip stuck out like a sore thumb to me every time I looked at it. It's nice to be using it again. Now it's even sharper than when I got it. Darn thing is like a razor, and now looks good again, too.
Still no corrosion at all on the blade, and I was almost expecting to see some this week with how hot and humid it has been here. I'm very happy with it.

I know how that feels, haha. Even if it doesn't affect the preformance of the blade, it still bothers the everliving shite out of me. It's just one of those things I can't seem to let go, like when I get tape gunk on the blade. I have to get it all off or it haunts me to no end.

That's the same thing I've noticed as well! CPM CruWear has pretty darn good corrosion resistance in my experience so far. Pretty much from the day I've gotten it, it's been hot and humid out and I haven't observed any oxidation whatsoever. That's a huge plus to me. I saw on YouTube where this guy left his blade inside a lemon for an hour and even that didn't do damage. CruWear is on it's way to becoming my absolute favorite steel. M390 holds that title for me, but not for long it seems, haha.

lol I'm the same way with the gunk you get on the blade from tape. It will bug me until it's removed. When I get home from work, one of the first things I do is wipe any pocket lint off of the knife and blade. Even if they are scratched up from use, I will still do it. My wife thinks I am crazy.
Wow, in a lemon like that and no damage. That's good to know. I have a CF PM2 with M4 here that I still haven't used. I go back and forth between saying heck with it and just enjoying the knife and living with the patina it will get or keeping it looking new like it is now. The just using it side is starting to win me over, though. Might just have to do it. It does no good just sitting in a drawer. It's the only knife I'm like this with for some reason.
