Greetings you all:)

I asked this on the Spyderco forums as well but I would like some opinions of you too;)

I love carrying my D2 Paramilitary/SE I got from Sal:thumbup:

Now I've read reports that CPMD2 is rather prone to rust.

A few days ago I looked at my D2 Para/SE in my display and felt sorry for the knife just sitting there, collecting dust and doing nothing:(

So I tightened and lock tited the pivot screw to my liking(smooth, but nice and tight[the blade doesn't fall shut upon releasing]) thereby removing the hair of vertical play.
Furthermore I put on a very thick layer of Ballstol on the blade and let it soak in overnight.

Next day I wiped off the exess and put the knife in my RFP.

What do you think, Do I still have to be carefull with it in terms of eventual moisture and how are your experiences with CPMD2 and corrosion?

I would very much like to know.

Thanx for reading.

I've carried my CPM D2 Para on a daily basis as my primary EDC for the last 6 months. This knife sees plenty of hard use and is no stranger to food prep, garden use and wet environments.
As this was my first CPMD2 blade I was initially cautious in regards to it rusting and often (unnecessarily) liberally oiling the blade. These days all I do to clean the knife is wash in hot & soapy water when it's dirty.
I have never had any visible form of corrosion or staining develop with this blade.
To be honest I've had more corrosion problems with S30V, buts that's due to neglect :o more than anything else...

If you keep this knife clean you will have no problems, I wouldn't stress about frequently oiling the blade.

I treat my D2 Millie just like my other Spydies.

Mine has one small grey mark from cutting rhubarb and not cleaning it for a while. No other corrosion and mine has been carried a lot.

So go ahead and use it like you stole it;) I think Sal would like it getting used:D

I treat mine just like my stainless folders with no issues on my Millie. I have a Papa on the way to me next week, which is really going to be nice having both the Millie and it's smaller compression lock brother n CPM D2, which I like more than S30V because it takes and holds such great edges. I am jealous of your one off SE models though, spydytch!

I haven't seen rust on mine, but it does have a little bit of a stain/patina on it.

I have a D2 military. No rust but a little patina on the blade. There is a spot or two that is a little darker than the rest of the blade. This was from using the knife for food and wiping down but not beinagle able to wash the blade down until the next day.

i certainly would not say the cpm d2 is prone to rust. it is not considered a stainless steel, but it is pretty close.

in my experience (d2 in general), it is not terribly stain resistant, but is pretty good regarding corrosion.

I went through the same aprehensions before buying the D2 Para, but after a couple weeks of use I haven't noticed any rust or corrosion. When it does get wet, though, I dry it as soon as possible, just like I would any other knife.

Best knife purchase I've made yet.
