I have Crucibles data for D2, not CPM D2. Is the heat treat the same for both? They call for 1 temper after cryo.
Any favorite ways to heat treat. Shooting for 61 to 62 RC.

Rumour has it that the new company will be abandoning CPMD2.

Yes, you can use the regular D2 recipe - We cryo and double temper. Performance in the CPM product is reported to be outstanding!

Thank you.
I hope there will be a supply of this. I only picked up (2) 3 ft sticks of it.
I think the procedure used was ramp to 1200 and then to 1875..not sure of the time, I was not there. Then down to room temp with cryo with 2 tempers at 375 and were shooting for a 61 RC.
I am totally new at this but have been blessed with having a maker close to me that is willing to teach and share information. I want to do the same... after I learn!
Thanks again
Porter

Say it isn't so! :(

It wouldn't surprise me much if they did discontinue it, because apparently the extra cost involved in the CPM process is only worth it to knifemakers, when it comes to D2. I guess if we have to say goodbye to CPMD2 so Crucible can afford/continue to provide their many other excellent steels, it's a worthwhile sacrifice.

I think I read someone say that the process for making that particular steel (CPMD2) was very hard/corrosive on the foundry equipment, and that the batch that was made originally was done before the equipment needed to be replaced anyway. Maybe I'm remembering it incorrectly?
