I'm within 10 days of the end of a spending freeze (an agonizing month and half of no new blades), and I'm hoping to pick one of the D2 Paramillies still available on Spyderco's site. I'm hoping they'll last till then, cause I've heard nothing but high praise for the Paramillie. It'll be my 4th spyderco, after the Tenacious, UKPK and Delica 4.

I'm sure you guys are all for me purchasing the knife, but how is the maintenance of the D2? I've never owned any knives in CPM-D2 (or just vanilla D2 for that matter) and I was wondering about the maintenance of the blade.

I know that it'll require more supervision than my other spydies, but how much more? What do you guys do to keep the rust at bay?

I just wipe it with Tuf-Cloth after use and before storing. But then I do not use it to cut food, you may want to use another kind of lubricant if you do.

That said...I prefer my D2 knives to develop patina. If I can find a pic of my favorite Queen Canoe in D2, I'll post it.

Just get one. Comes with a card on maintenance of the steel.
I heard there are no more plans for another folder in CPM D2 at the moment.

 Whoa, major bummer there! :thumbdn::thumbdn:

My D2 para is my favorite knife, and the D2 is a major part of the reason!

Hopefully Spyderco will have a change of heart on that one. I'd seriously consider anything they made in D2. Love that steel!!!

Unfortunately I do not think it is up to Spyderco as Crucible has said they may not be making CPM-D2 any more, or CPM-154 for that matter. I guess we will have to wait and see how Crucible's bankruptcy goes.

Yeah, I just read Sal's comments to that effect in another thread here. I am even more bummed about Crucible's troubles. They make great steel. I hope they come out of Chapter 11 a more healthy entity and can continue on.

I was in the store on Saturday and the D2 Paras are still $99.95 and in stock. I all most picked up another one but decided to hold out for the Camo Millie which I would like to have but am waiting to find a deal. I have a Black and Orange G 10 Millie so why do I need another Millie? Don't ask me

That patina on the D2 Millie does look nice. Adds a bit of character to the whole package.

Has been pretty stable as well, small stains just add character now:D

Very happy with the edge holding and sharpness of the steel:thumbup:

I wouldn't be surprised if that patina actually stabilizes the steel more from corrosion to a certain degree. Almost like a sealant in some way . . .

no fair how did u patina ur d2 milli iv beeen forcing one on mine for 2 days now with vinegar, mustard and wine ... very slow process so far

Warm (50 degrees C) red wine vinegar in a tall glass. Took less than an hour:thumbup:

It is dark gray when you take it out, but after cleaning thoroughly it was an even relatively light gray color.

This should protect the blade a bit against corrosion and the normal stains you can get with D2 if you don't clean it after cutting acidic fruits and meat only add character and don't look like light gray streaks on an otherwise shiny blade.
