I just ordered a Military in CMP D2.Can someone please tell me about this steel.I would like to know the RC,how it compairs to S30V in ability to take abuse and what makes it different from other D2.

I don't plan to abuse the knife.I would just like to know if anyone has any experience with CMP D2.

I tried a search so thanks for any links or other help.

As far as I know cpm s30v is more corrotion resistant and tuffer then cpm d2.They both have similar edge retention.I would give cpm d2 an edge in the ware resistance department.

CPM D2 is an experimental batch of D2 steel made by Crucible to see what effect their processes would have on it. From what I have read, the gains were too small to make it worthwhile to go into full production, so it is unlikely to be seen again (once Sal uses up what he has left after the Military sprint). I believe Sal said it was running at Rc 61.

It seems to have a bit better corrosion resistence than standard D2, but it is a tool steel, not a stainless. So far, it seems to hold an edge as well as CPM 440V and BG42 in fairly hard use (light use for me, but my normal is considered abusive by many here).

I'd say get one, use it and don't baby it. But get diamond hones to sharpen it on ;).

You should do a search for it. Cliff Stamp has reviewed plenty of knives in both steels (albeit the regular d2 but it's still relavent). Also check CPM's (Crucible Particle Metallurgy ) website and read up about the properties of the steels the info is out there for a reason.

Thanks for asking this question. I ordered a military last night with the D2 blade, with the green handle.
I was wondering about the D2 as well. Some of my custom knives are made of D2; it is one of my favorite steels.
