There was no rust. Best I can imagine sand wore down the spring? I have no clue though. A bad spring? The reason I said oiled and clean is because the mini grip was dry lubed and I'm not sure that was the best? It kept away grit but maybe not the best lubricant?
Keeping this one clean with an air compressor now and again. Making sure there's no sand or abrasive materials eating away at that tiny spring.

Are you suspecting rust is a factor for the failed lock spring? I haven't done maintenance for my cpm-m4 mini-grip. Maybe I should?
