....just finished these up in .090" CPM M4. Nice and thin with full flat grinds.

Whats so special about CPM M4?? How about 6-8 times the wear resistance of D-2 at the same RC hardness!!

This is a Hydra with silver twill and black liners.

Here is a Panfish in burgundy linen micarta.

Thanks for looking!

Any chance of getting a spine shot of the Hydra? I'd like see how the liners look.

Unfortunately it is already on its way to Danbo!! Maybe we can talk him into shooting a spine shot for us.

Don't fall in love with the Silver Twill G-10 it has become unobtanium!!

That Hydra is just awesome!

What hardness is the steel, and who is heat treating it?

Thanks,

John

The hardness I choose is RC 60. This will give some crazy good wear resistance without being too tough to sharpen. Paul Bos did the heat treatment!!

ooh nice, It seems like it would be tough to sharpen.

I grind my knives relatively thin. This helps them cut better AND makes them easier to sharpen. My knives are purpose made for CUTTING!!

I recommend using Diamond hones for these knives. With them, I don't think it will be a problem.

Tom----stop with the pics! Yer kill'n me and my wallet will be next. Great knives! Thanks.

Tom, be extremely careful with M4. It can get very sharp and you could cut yourself..................?

Tom, I LOVE all the knives!! You haven't made a knife yet that I do not like!!

The bushcraft knife with the ironwood is just awesome.

I love that high contrast ironwood and that tapered tang on the double eight is simply killing me:)....

Great work as usual, Tom!

You already know how I feel about your knives, but those sheaths are amazing as well. Great packages!

I'm surprised that CPM M4 isn't more popular for knife making. Is it a lot harder to work with than more common steels?

Yes, I knew CPM M4 was a lot more difficult to work with, when Gayle Bradley delivered a knife to me made out of it. Now, Gayle is known for his outstanding handrubbed finishes. When this CPM M4 knife of his came to me with a 400 grit belt finish on the blade bevels and mill scale on the flats, I knew there had to be a reason for it. :)

Well worth the extra pain in the butt working with it, though. The stuff takes and holds an awesome edge.

I think the diminishing tang from the Double Eight knife is a very smart idea. It would seem to move the balance foward right to the hilt or even into the blade a bit. I like my balance to be foward in my working knives, such as a bushcraft knife. What are the specs on your pictured Bushcraft knife Mr Krein?
