And more specifically, “high speed tool steel”.
High Speed, Low Drag? No just kidding.

I should expand and say I use the term tool steel when I talking to someone about my knife and while they're not dumb people but their only exposure to pocket knives or any other cutlery is stainless and they'll comment on the finish not being polished shiny. Then I can explain that a tool steel is more like an old wrench in their toolkit that isn't shiny anymore but it's not rusty either. That usually makes a good connection for them.

I try not to be too explainy/superior and it translates well. Anyone I know who has experience with high speed tool steel would see the tang stamp and connect the dots.
 
I know most people don’t care about the difference, but might be beneficial to the few who do.

once it M4 does change color, is there a way to bring back the shine of the steel without sanding?

What's special about the tanto that it gets coconut oil?
That it's not my carry knife and I don't have coconut oil with me all the time... I would honestly use it for both, but it's more convenient to put some lip balm on the blade while you're on the go.
