I've heard a great deal about how amazing M4 is and I've got plans to start a new knife soon so I figured it was a great opportunity to try it out. However, the knife is rather large (I'm going to need a piece at least 3"x12") and the only place I could find a piece big enough is McMaster. At $300 for a 1/4" thick bar I figured that I might as well try to find some of the CPM variety because I've had great success with their steel in the past and it can't cost a whole lot more than McMaster's.

If anyone knows where I can get a piece (looking for 1/4" or thicker and 3"x12+") I would much appreciate it.

Thanks,
Tomas Casals

You can contact crucible (Now SB specialty metals) directly to place an order.

I got a bar directly from crucible before they were taken over. It was .29" thick by 1.5" wide by 36" long and cost $126 I beleive. great stuff. At the time the minimum thickness was .290 which is kinda thick but it will do and the length was 36" but you can choose whatever width you want, however I dont know how it stands now.

Thanks guys, you've managed to locate that which I could not. I could have sworn I had looked at alpha but didn't see any... I guess not.

Don't forget this place:

1/4"x3"x36" is $340 for sheared and $378 for belt-cut. Pretty expensive.

I got some 1/8" stock before Crucible went belly up. Now it seems only thicker CPM M4 is available.
