I noticed in the Jan 2014 edition of Blade Magazine that the 2013 Blade Show World Championship was won with a blade made of CPM M4 steel.
The article said that the preferred blade steel for the competitors is CPM M4 steel.
Anyone have any experience with this steel? I try to keep up on knife steels, but don't recall ever hearing anything about this steel.
Who sells it?
What is the recommended heat treatment?

Alpha Knife Supply has thin (0.072") cpm-m4. My limited exp about 5 small knives made with these thin cpm-m4. Grind & sand hardened M4 were painful and my dull XX, X diamond plates mostly skid around. Edge retention is awesome. I used dmt from X to EE to sharpen these blades (aust 2.15K, sub-zero, tempered 1K).

If you want M4 make sure it's CPM M4 it's a real high performance steel !

The Spyderco Gayle Bradley has an M4 blade and it looks sick !

But the thought of the M4 blade becoming discolored over time with patina keeps me away. What can be done to prevent M4 from getting that patina? I'd rather the blade stay shiny and new looking.
