Good morning,
Was making my daily rounds and spotted these at Nifecenter.

Hasn't sold out yet lol, any thoughts? Worth picking up?

That looks like a real handy blade, but I'll wait until the price descends from its stratospheric level.

Uhhhh....what? Gotta say, it's definitely not attractive to me that they went with a scandi grind on these. If this new steel is supposed to be the bee's knees, then FFG that's VERY thin behind the edge is what I'd expect to see.

Magnacut looks to be an unbelievable steel, but I'll wait for the prices to come down a little bit. I'm still impressed with M390, 20CV, etc.

Thanks for being my voice of reason guys.

Think I'll sit this one out and not ride the hype train (yet)

What would that knife be for? A Scandi grind on that blade shape seems like an odd choice, and the handle shape would not be comfortable for me. Yes, thin FFG or similar is what I would expect, and what I will be doing once my first run of MagnaCut blades returns from heat treatment.

Gonna wait for Magnacut to be a bit more prevalent. IIRC Larrin said it shouldn't be more expensive than most other steels and perhaps even slightly cheaper than quite a few.

I bought two big sheets from NSM on the first release and IIRC Magnacut price like 1 or 2% more expensive than CPM-S45VN as raw material. Still cheaper than S90V, S110V, 20CV etc.

For this size and this kind of grind I don't think it benefit much from the unique properties of Magnacut...

Saw a video on blade show 2021 and the Chris Reeve booth had an employee with a large sebenza with a magna cut blade and a special printed titanium clip. Obviously his own personal knife and probably not a prototype but just him testing the steel but the makers have this and they are playing with it. I would pay a premium for a magna cut large sebenza. Maybe we should make a fuss and petition them to make a run in Magna Cut. Sure to be a good performer on everything and the secondary market.

Yeah cost wise it was actually cheaper than M390 but more decently expensive than CPM Cruwear per pound.

In defense of Creely Blades - I bought one at BLADE this year. Granted I bought it with a FFG blade of Cru-wear instead of Magnacut. The handle actually feels very comfortable in my L/XL hand.

Re: Magnacut - while talking to Dan Eastland of Dogwood knives I mentioned Magnacut steel and he pulled out a small thin fixed blade out of his stocking. He said it would hold an edge well, but ate up belts grinding it.

We don’t care about belts being eaten up. We care about a lifetime of enjoyment. A small price to pay. He loves his job. Don’t let him fool you. ;)

I think his point is that it can make it costlier to finish, especially on a large scale.
