Cpm S35vn vs cpm154

If you think 440C is good stuff, you'll really like CPM-154. And if you like CPM-154, you'll love CTS-XHP. It grinds the same, takes a really nice polish like CPM-154 does and has a bit better edge-retention and noticeably better corrosion-resistance. I can't tell much difference between the two toughness-wise, they're both tougher than most give them credit for IMO. As much as the idea makes me cringe, it does have the cache' of being a new hot steel like Ray mentioned about S35VN. Not trying to muddy the waters, but I thought CPM-154 was pretty much the bee's knees till I won a piece of CTS-XHP in a GAW.

I use three steels. Cpms 35vn, cpms 90v, and Boehler N690. I consider them all to be great steels. As previously stated fixed blades are a good start. I look forward to seeing your folder when complete though if that's the route you choose. Best luck to you.

Cpm 154cm is not tougher then CPM s35vn, you only have to call crucible and they will confirm this fact. 154 is a good steel and very comparable, but it is not tougher.

Wow, Metal Storm, I might have said something slightly snide about your doble posting into an old thread as a very new user, but apparently your entrance was enough to entice the obviously consummate lurker into a comment!

Ok, probably not. I try not to be snide. Welcome to the forums anyway.

Say Heah Boys and Girls, I just ordered a 6" blade with a Dual Grind, All I going to use it for is for working wood. The knife originally comes in a O1, But I've been reading alot of positive reviews that some even compare it to the O1 for cutting, And it is a high carbon stainless so I coukd get a keen edge on it, I did also have a choice to use CPM S35Vn, and the CPM D2, But being old school, I went with the CPM 154 because worst case scenario it's been a tried blade material and I read it's property good stuff.

Well, trying to be subtle isn't working ... so ... thread closed.

BTW, Rsq played with two or three knives and never finished them as far as I know. He still buys and sells factory and custom knives.
