Cpm steels

You might want to check yourself as well as your comments. What's the scripture? Before pointing out the splinter in your neighbor's eye, you might want to pull the plank out of your own eye.

For example, where were you when this thread was posted?

Or how about this one?

Or even this one?

You were a member then, were you just not professional enough to post?

You see my point? Anyway, we are all very excited about NSM and Aldo, and many makers here have been purchasing from Aldo for years. You should be careful with generalizations. Of course, it's a free country, so do what you want, but don't expect others to sit idly by why you question their integrity.

Thanks for clarifying where you were coming from. It is nice that they are paying attention to the custom makers. We are a small percentage of their sales, I am sure, but I think the high-profile makers/shops have an influence on the buying public that is far out of proportion to the amount of steel they buy, so for my part, the folks at Niagara are on to something there. I doubt the comments lately about Admiral will have much effect on thier bottom line. Their service has reflected this fact for years, a situation which finally seems to have come full circle for them.
I for one was excited when I first read that Aldo had reached an agreement with Niagara, and have ordered cpm stock from him more than once since.
I admit that I am still a little confused what kind of response you expected here? If Niagara wants to further their interests here, I can only suggest some direct involvment, even though I understand that the possible implications for them as a business are worth considering first. Some technical support and research/data which is geared towards individual makers, and home heat-treaters in particular, would be a great place to start. I understand that they have such support availible by phone but if they are looking to catch more attention, well....

Nathan- perfect post my thread... and exactly what was running through my mind while reading this thread.

I think you have something there Justin!

To Nathan, Wheeler, and Sanders, Had you been paying attention, you would have known that Lovett Knives was down then. Along with any connection to the INTERNET.

We were going thru a very trying Texas State "Forced" Eminent Domain Move (They wanted out land of a road to nowhere.) The promised 3--60 day move too, over a year and a half. This was compounded by a bout of Cancer that had to be beaten before I could continue my work.

This has all been well documented here on Blade Forums. Mostly in the Collector area. You Know, Our Customers. (Or at least some of mine).
So you see, I do pay attention.

Mike,

I certainly agree that some mention could be made to Niagara Steel. It is rare that a President of such a large company would pay attention to such a small segment of their business.

But I've worked for large companies, and had very large territories. The company (up to and including the President) would still make a point to pay attention to the smallest of accounts. I think this is the same thing here.

With all due respect, I don't think its extraordinary for Niagara Steel to address a small part of their business. But I certainly appreciate it and agree that it should be acknowledged.

I think your second post here wasn't worded well. Like some have said, we were busy (I know I was). I would think you were trying to rouse people up and get some attention for something you felt was important. To shoot out "unprofessional" was a bit harsh. I've always said judge the content, not the presentation.

I think we all should spread good words here about Niagara Steel and Aldo. I think that was the initial point of this thread. I think sticking to that would make more sense than turning this into a shouting match.

While you and I usually agree on most things , in this case Mike your 2nd post was over the top , especially after reading the one I quoted , you could have used the search feature to see how much time others have put into similar topics already.

Questioning others professionalism is a bit over the top. While many have dealt with Aldo (I have ) , until a supplier (Niagara) goes above and beyond , if they are delivering product that is paid for , is that not what they are in business for ? :D

Finally a Manufacturer, "NOT Supplier" takes a huge step in addressing these issues.
Since they don't MAKE the steel are they a manufacture or rolling plant ? Serious question.

yep they are jsut a roller but im glad they are as i was unable to get the steel i needed for a while (have thought about ordering 200lb of custom steel and have the roll it out tho)
if anything i see the aldo NSM connection more of NSM not wanting to handle the bar of this bar of that orderes (imm fine with that )
in the end the NSG gets ther $ and so does aldo and we all get great steel and great service

Mr. Lovett, I'm uncertain why you weren't aware (until recently) of the relationship with Niagara Specialty Metals, the former Crucible Industries, and The New Jersey Steel Baron...

Almost one year ago I posted this - done on MY time, with no desire than to give back to the knife community that has so selflessly shared with me:

Tour of Niagara Specialty Metals

...followed shortly thereafter by this:

Even MORE pics of Niagara Specialty Metals

...which led to this:

New Jersey Steel Baron & NSM

I've just eliminated part of this post to reduce the spread of fire. However, I must admit - you've struck a nerve. I also see that Nathan's links mirror my own. Sorry, Nathan - I didn't mean to repeat you. The third post of this thread was kind of a slap in my face, as it made it sound as if no one had done or said anything before, and it sent me reeling (guess how many hours I spent editing and adjusting those photos!!!!).
