I got some of the first CPM 154 CM to make the market...from Pops sometime about a year, year and a half ago. It had those same inclusions in it and it turned out to be "Defective", per Crucible. They inadvertantly let some get on the market before the process, or the recipie, was perfected. I got three sticks that that happened to have those inclusions and they gladly replaced it free of charge. I saw the Crucible guy at the Blade this year and thanked them for making it good and he responded something to the effect "Yeah, glad we could help...we still don't know how that stuff got on the market, but it did...sure am sorry buddy..."
Its not you, nor is it your technique...it is the steel....get some current production CPM154CM steel and you won't have this problem.
BTW: After spotting the inclusions, I decided to use the blades for shop knives, personal gutting knives, etc...not for sale. They seemed to be every bit as good as the current CPM154CM...no difference in edge holding, etc. I just finished them down to a 320 grit and you would never notice....but, again, they are not for sale. Bead blasted, or scotch brite finish is too fine and the inclusions will show up...stick with a 320 grit finish if you choose to keep the steel.
