I recently received a CPMD2 Military to do some testing with and I found some interesting differences between it and my older 440V version, so I thought I'd share.

First, the CPMD2 version weighs 122.7g on my scale, while the 440V weighs 112.9. Both knives have been reprofiled so that will affect weight some. The CPMD2 version does have another steel liner as well.

The ball detents on them feel quite different. The CPMD2 version one feels stiff and takes some force to initially open, while compared to the D2 version the 440V Millie feels like it doesn't have a ball detent. The liner lock takes more force to operate on the D2 model.

The G10 scales are slightly thicker and radiused differently than the 440V knife.

The D2 version features small, fine jimping in the choil area and the thumbramp. The 440V version has the larger cutout style of jimping on the spine only.

The lock-cut out on the handle of the D2 version isn't as tall as the 440V version.

On the blade the grind lines go in different directions on certain spots. The area of the tang that falls right under the thumbramp when the blade is open for example; on the D2 version the grind lines go horizontal and on the 440V version they're vertical.

440V version uses a hex pivot screw, the D2 version appears to have hex.

D2 version has black pocket clip, 440V has silver with patent info on it.

G10 texturing on the D2 version is grippier and different in appearance.

Blade markings on are the left side of the blade on the 440V version, they're on both sides and the pivot area on the D2 version.

The stop pin on the D2 version has a more bronze appearance to it than the 440V version.

The tolerances between nested liner and G10 scales is different near the top end of the handle.

The backspacer sits above the scales by a hair on the 440V model and slightly below the scales on the D2 version.

Thought it was interesting seeing all of the little differences between the knives. The D2 version feels more solid and comfortable to me and I prefer the texture of its G10, but I like the lightness and easy opening of the 440V knife while slightly preferring its thumb ramp jimping as well. I should however note that my 440V Millie is the only knife I've had open in my pocket (Carried without clip at the time) so maybe the stronger detent has it's uses ;)

I'll update this post with some photos later, and eventually I'm going to be doing edge retention testing among other things with these two Military knives along with other folders like a Kershaw in 13C26, a Byrd, a Manix in S30V and a Boker in AUS8.

My two Millies are the same versions and I agree completely regarding the effort for opening and lock disengagement. I think I prefer the thinner jimping on the D2 model but still need to use the knives back to back, both with and without gloves, before deciding for sure.

My D2 version is sawing a hole in my jeans, right front pocket clip carry. Never had this problem with any other Spydie I carry...including my S30V Millie. The G-10 feels more aggressive.

The card I took the photos on got corrupted, but I do have one that I saved directly to the camera.

Thanks for posting this info! I just ordered the D2; my original millie is the 440 steel.
