I wanted topost this here instead of the Reviews forum because I've bashed plenty of Benchmades in General in the past. I've been avoiding Benchmade's products for a while due to their inane warranty and pricing policies, not to mention my past experience with their shoddy QC. Well, I broke down and bought a 690 with the BC1 blade yesterday. I'm eating crow, as Benchmade has gotten it's act together on their liner locks and overall QC. I inspected a couple of 690s and 450s and all had very good fit and finish, the best I've seen from Benchmade. I had the pleasure of comparing the 690 with the custom Elishewitz version (not sure of it's nomenclature) and I don't see why anyone would pay $400+ for the custom when the 690 is so well made. The blade is ground very well and the edge is the sharpest I've experienced from Benchmade (it rivals my Spyderco Starmate). I still refuse to buy any Axis locks due to my refusal pay for shipping for a broken omega spring, but I'll be acquiring a 450BC1 Park Avenue toute de suite! I'm happy to have Benchmade liner locks on my buy list again!

Hey Chris - any wobble in the lock yet? How many times have you cycled it already?

Glad to see you're eating crow - the 690 is THE sweetest custom collaboration Benchmade has done to date. It's a definite keeper IMHO.

Senator,

24hrs., huh? Well, I wouldn't be setting my personal record, but we'll see. LOL!

Dex,

No wobble, and it is tighter than a...well you get the picture. Cycled probably 300 times since lunch yesterday.

BTW, Beck's has a few of the plain edge 450s in stock. Nice knife, but I could only choose one and the 690 won out. I think the 690 with the BC1 blade is definitely a keeper, that is unless I wear it out

What are the specs on the BC1 coating? I haven't been able to find much about it and it seems pretty tough. Is it corrosion resistant? I was impressed with it's appearance on the 450, but I had to do a double take when I saw the it on the 690.
Really impressive.

Take care,
Chris

CPR,
By any chance, does crow taste anything like chicken?

I'm not surprised to hear your admission regarding the quality of the 690. Everyone seems to feel the same. I've been interested ever since I've seen the first ad but I want to handle one prior to buying (just to make sure). 'Ya know what I mean?

Not sure you need to eat the whole bird yet. Please note thread in this forum, near top, "BM 770."

By the bye, I grew up eating chickens feet, along with the rest of the bird. How are crows feet?
