CQC 13. How is the fit and finish?

I would really appreciate hearing your comments for those who have bought one in the past year or two. I am seriously thinking of getting one but have some concerns since I have read that the fit and finish quality is highly variable. My local knife store doesn't carry them so no way to see one in person. Thanks in advance for any comments.
 
If it were I buying one, I'd buy from a dealer who will take out the knife and inspect/QC check it before shipping it to you, because I'm sure there will still be hit and miss even if QC and F&F have improved in the last year or two. I do this with most the Spydercos I buy and so far no blade play in any I've bought from him.
 
I just bought one. Great knife, but not sure if I am going to keep it. Nothing wrong with the knife at all. Love the design. But, my other Emersons are all Super versions, and it just feels tiny compared to them. Mine was on the secondary market, and and a scratched up clip, which is easy to replace. The fit and finish was perfect, as have been all my Emersons. If you are not a overly obsessed with large folders like me, order with confidence.

Do you know of a dealer you think would be willing to do this? My local knife guy thinks they are over rated and won't stock them. Not sure which online dealers would do that. Good point though.

Thanks for the comments. I really love large beefy folders. I thought the CQC 13 was fairly massive. Is there a Super version of this, or is the super only an option on the Commander mostly?
 
I bought one and received it today. Fit and finish is 100% in every respect. Its 2012 production. I sanded the G10 under the clip so it wouldn't totally shred my pocket, and adjusted the pivot and the clip to suit me. But it was perfect.

I might sell the sucker, though, as it takes up so much space in my pocket. Its got that handle shape thats reminiscent of the Cold Steel Spartan in that it really wraps around your hand. That part where it wraps around your pinkie finger also gets in your way a little when the knife is in your pocket. Hope that makes sense.

But the bowie shape is awesome, and my example is perfect. Well centered, early lockup, razor sharp.

Its a big folder. Not massive, but plenty big. Same size as the CQC-8, but the scale shape adds some heft.

Are you familiar with the ZT 0200? If so, would you say this is about the same size? I have a CS Spartan and like the size, and thickness of the scales, but I think the ZT Scales are bit too thick for me.
 
I don't have a ZT 0200. As for the Spartan, I only mentioned it in regard to the overall shape of the scales being somewhat (though remotely, actually) similar to the degree that both knives sorta wrap around your hand. The CQC-13 has plenty of real estate for a large hand - thats about the best I can describe it.
 
I'm so tempted to order one, but I'm just not sold on the shape. I had one in my cart this morning but couldn't pull the trigger.

Unfortunately, there is no Super version of the 13. It is a decent sized folder. I just like big folding knives. Emerson offers a few models in the Super size. Commander, 7, 8, Roadhouse, Karambit, Raven; and I believe a few other models that are currently out of production.

Again, the 13 is decent sized. It just seems small compared to my Super 8, Super Roadhouse, and Rukus that I usually carry. The 13 is the same basic size as my Super CQC 7, however it feels smaller in the hand.

Emerson Knives are produced according to a schedule, like many other companies. They produce a certain model until a quota is reached, then produce another model, etc. they don't run a factory producing all models 24/7/365.
 
From my experience, Emerson fit and finish has been hit or miss. I still love their products ( cqc10 in pocket now!) but I have had 2 times I had to return a knife due to f and f issues. It is best to hold it first. Try gp knives or howie knife shop they are smaller and will probably look at it for you before you buy it if they have them in stock
 
Got mine 2 days ago in Stonewash. I had it on order for over 18 months. The finish is great as always and it's beefy as hell. I really like the blade sharp on this one, the point is a needle, absolute needle.
