CQC 13. How is the fit and finish?

Got mine 2 days ago in Stonewash. I had it on order for over 18 months. The finish is great as always and it's beefy as hell. I really like the blade sharp on this one, the point is a needle, absolute needle.

You guys should watch this:

That is impressive!

Well, the cqc-13 I ordered last week from one of the major online stores came into today. Unfortunately I must report that I am a bit disappointed. I opend it up and looked it over. The blade was very off centered. So much so that it is rubbing the stainless steel liner. I am in the process of dissembling the knife right now for the second time. The first time i cleaned it and greased it and thought if did that and put it back together i could get the blade centered. It ended up being the same and still so far over it was still rubbing the stainless steel liner. I am going to try to bend the dentent bar on the stainless side over a bit so it might center the blade. Ill report back after I reassemble the knife and tell you how it turned out...

Update: I forced the detent bar over on the stainless steel liner and it pushed the blade back to the center a bit. It is not perfectly centered but it is not rubbing the stainless liner anymore so I am happy.

Ok, carrying the 13 for a few days has made me a fan. Just ordered a replacement clip and screws to dress it up a bit. The lock is pretty far along to the right, which is understandable as this is a 2006 model. It had a bit of bladeplay, but after bending the liner lock a little, it locks up tight as a safe. I figure that over the next year or so I will send it in and pay to have a new liner lock put in.

Overkill, I haven't had a bad Emerson yet, but have heard the stories. Let us know if you are able to fix it, and how. Good luck, man! Nothing worse than waiting for that package in the mail, only to have it faulty.

Overkill,

Since you bought it new, why don't you return it? That is a lot of cash to pay for a knife that is somewhat defective.

How center it is depends on how you are assembling the knife. You need to make sure you are applying all screws SIMULTANEOUSLY, and tightening the pivot last.

If you tighten one side of screws, then the other, the blade will be off center.

Yes, I understand that. I can usually always get a knife centered after proper reassembly. The problem with this knife was that the detent bar on the stainless steel liner was pushed in wY to far and not applying any pressure. The liner lock was pushing the blade way off center. I took it apart the second tim and used a flat head to pry the detent bar out a bit and reassembled it and it worked to push the blade on center more. I did not want to pry the detent bar out to much not knowing if that was the problem but now that i see it worked to fix it I am going to pry it out just a little bit more next time I break it down and hopefully ill be able to get it near perfect. Ill take pictures and post them after I do it to show what I did to fix the blade centering issue.

As for returning it, I would rather try to fix the peoblem
Myself and that would be my last ditch effort if i could not fix it. I am usually not one to nit pick over my knives and if there are little flaws or imperfections i tend not to get mad and make a big fuss over it.

I have seen people on this site get knives that have a small problem with it and raise hell over it. I have seen people demand partial refunds over a blade being a hair off center, not to mention it rubbing the liner. You wont ever catch me demanding refunds and stuff like that. If you want a perfect knife go to a store in person and buy it brand new. That or learn to take apart your knives and figure out a way to fix it if possible. If the only way to fix it is with a new part or something like that then i would say its the manufactures error and theN send it back or get a refund.

,There's a nifty trick out there for centering Emersons. There are some YouTube videos. Basically crank the pivot all the way down, loosen the body screws all up, then wedge a piece of folded paper between the blade and the side it is off center towards (forcing it all the way in the other direction) then tighten the body screws up, remove the wedge, and loosen the pivot to your preference.

That was the first thing I did. :)

After carrying the 13 for a few weeks, it has become my main EDC knife. Swapped out the clip, which was showing a lot of wear. It is a 2006 model, so it had seen a lot of pocket time. If anyone is on the fence about getting a 13, I would say go for it.

After a few weeks of carrying my cqc-13 I purchased the verdict is out. I LOVE THIS FREAKING KNIFE. That is all.

Same here. The one I have is a black finish. I like it so much, I may try to get one in the satin finish as well. This will be the first Emerson I purchase 2 different versions of the same knife.
