I hated them at first. Somewhere along the way it grew on me.

I had the same issue. Had a commander many years ago and it didn't do anything for me. Recently I picked up a Benchmade/Emerson and am now awaiting delivery of my 4th Emerson. There are a couple others I'd like to try too.

"Mangled" is definitely a bit of an exaggeration - it scratched up the grind a bit reprofiling it, and the subtip was moved forward a bit because I wasn't careful. Functionally, it's far improved, so I'm not too worried. You should see the height of the secondary bevel now!

Post some pics lol. I reprofiled my 15 and decided to get rid of the transition from tanto to recurve. Still has a very straight and thick tanto edge but has more of abelly now. Much better cutting performance and a nice polished edge. Not the prettiest thing, but its real stabby now.
