Hey guys, im kinda new to emerson knives, and i know there are lots of questions on the "Which to buy Subject"...but, ive narrowed it down to either the CQC-8 with the wave, or the Commander...

so what are your experiences with either of them, pros and cons, and which one do you think i should go with?

and also where is the best place to buy one, or if your getting rid of one let me know...

thanks

I have a 2005 SF 8 with wave. Its a Great knife. Very comfortable, useful blade shape, easy to resharpen, and it has a very very good balance. I prefer the 8's blade shape anytime over the commanders curve.

Hope it helps.

Good luck to find one.

Ps: i prefer knifeworks, or ebay. i bought mine for 140$ on ebay it was a bargain:p

I've had both. I prefer the 8. Nothing wrong with the Commander. It was a great knife but the ergos on the 8 fit me better. I also found it a lot easier to sharpen. You really need to be able to hold both IMO.

I had krein hit my commander and was going to have him do the 8 but its just so damn easy to sharpen with the dmt mini sharpener that I carry. So, I left it alone.

You did good. The 8 is the best all-rounder Emerson. Except maybe for the 13.... and 11....

:p

My first emerson was an 11. It had a terrible lock, I could squeeze the liners together by squeezing the grip, The ergos didn't work for me and the clip dug into my hand. I almost wrote off EKI entirely but due to the wave I gave them another try.

On the flip side, I gave the knife to a buddy. He sent it to emerson and absolutely loves the knife. The ergos are perfect to him. THATS what I like about emerson. They have enough knives with different ergos than you can find the one that fits. Unfortunately no one in my area carries them so I had to just order online. I was fortunate to get the 8 which fits nicely.

I guess my first EKI was a lemon :( It has since made me slightly uneasy about my other emersons(8 & horseman on its way) which is why i'm converting them to frame locks.

actually i hear this alot where people buy one and its al messed up and they send it back and everything is fine...as far as the frame lock goes, i would wanna do that but for they money might as well just buy another higher end blade, but they do look awesome hha, hope it all tuns out awesome, thanks for sharing

I'm just a big fan of the wave so a "higher end knife" just wouldn't do it for me. I've had striders, a limited zt, and have microtechs and personally prefer my benchmade 710 to them. But since its not waved I go back to my emerson. I just don't think knives close to the $200 price point should have such QC issues. But whatever, everyone has lemons. I still think EKI could do better. Like you said, I wasn't the only one.

Back to your thread...Have you received your new EKI yet? If so, what your thoughts? Hopefully positive.

I did, i got it today, and the only thing that comes to mind is the word "Badass" hahah no but, its nothing but good, im etremely happy with it and it is worth the money, the thing i might to is order some phos-bronz washers and put them in there to me more smooth, and maybe after a while send it in for a krein regrind, but i love it

Glad to hear youre pleased. I've been thinking about doing the same with the washers but people claim it doesn't matters. I made my slick up by wearing it in faster. lol If I said exactly how I did it I'm sure most would disagree with my method. Hint, it involved sand, the washers, and the blade. It made it dramtically smoother. I basically sanded and polished the coating off the blade just where the washers make contact.

hmmm that sounds like it wouldnt be too helpful or at lease i wouldntve thought of doing that hhahah, but ill think about that...

the only time its not too smoth opening it with the thumb disk, when i wave it out or use my wrist to gently fling it out its pretty smooth but im gonna try to wear it in and see what happens but if it doesnt wear in might do the sand down thing hah, thanks for the tip
