CQC-8 or Commander

hmmm that sounds like it wouldnt be too helpful or at lease i wouldntve thought of doing that hhahah, but ill think about that...

the only time its not too smoth opening it with the thumb disk, when i wave it out or use my wrist to gently fling it out its pretty smooth but im gonna try to wear it in and see what happens but if it doesnt wear in might do the sand down thing hah, thanks for the tip

haha yea I don't suggest anyone do something to their knife that they aren't comfortable with. Mine was the same. The force of it being waved was fine and I could still pop the blade with just my thumb. It just wasn't as smooth as I'm used to with my other knives. Anyways, congrats on the knife. I'm sure it'll serve you well.

In my experience, Emerson's open and close smoother with use. I would "play" with it for a couple weeks at least before doing any sanding. Also, I think Nylatron washers (the one's your Emerson came with) are self lubricating (IIRC, they are infused with Molybdenum Disulfide). I thought about getting some phosphor bronze for my HD-7, but I eventually stuck with the factory Nylatron. Had the knife for over a year and havn't had to lub it yet.

do you know the size of the washers for the 8? cause i would like to see the differences between them and the factory ones

For the CQC-8, I think the washer dimensions are:

OD: 0.625"
ID: 0.255"
Thickness: 0.032"

The above info is floating around USN; I'm afraid I can't remember the original link.

Anyway, if you happen to find a good source for phosphor bronze washers, don't forget to clue us in ;). Boker's can make custom washers for you, but they have a large minimum order (500 or 1000 I think).

I have put PB washers on a few of the EKIs I've pimped for folks and have never found ones that fit the EKI pivot with out having to be drilled.
They don't really make a huge difference in my experience but they do have the  factor I supose :)
