CQC7... Chisel or V ground, go super or not?

So Lycosa... I've been waiting to hear from you. If you could have but one, would it be the super 7 w/ chisel or v ground with the shorter blade. In all honesty, I'm likely going with the super.

Aias get some cardboard, go stand at some busy intersection in your free time, with a sign saying you need help to buy a couple of Emerson's.

Should work well people like helping people. LOL

not sure if you meant to be good natured or not, so I'll just let this be...

Aias, let it be and the rest of us is here to help!;)

Now back on topic, I think you've already made up your mind so go with the super7 and let us know how you like it!^^

yeah, sound advice... shopping around now; found a few good prices, just checking with vendors with regard to the finer points. I learned not to be shy about asking for just what I want. I certainly pays off when you buy without actually getting to handle the goods.

@Aias, I have some hazy recollections of Astoria...late nights/early mornings...hungry...food carts...

I have a few Greek friends, and that's where we usually end up. :)

Aias- Hey man. I like the standard 7. If I wud go bigger, it would be a fixed blade.

isn't the V grind on Emerson knives still a chisel grind at the edge? i thought that they were just ground to look like a v edge but still only sharpened on one side... Hence it still being a chisel grind.. that how my traveler was. i like the look of the chisel grind on Emerson. it's what makes a Emerson Emerson...

and i like the chisel grind less sharpening time and easier to sharpen in the field if you ever needed to. i don't notice a real distinct difference in the cutting ability of a chisel grind. its is there but so slight that it doesn't matter (IMO). its good for slicing sushi!! :)

I'm Greek, and have many of the same recollections!

I understand, but fixed blades in LA county are not possible (for edc)--when I hike, etc, I use them. A folder below 4"is possible, however; though it is still best to be inconspicuous.

Yeah, I'm pretty much reaching the same conclusions--thanks. And thanks again to you all for the good info.

Hey aias,

I have two Super 7's, both are black tanto blades with no serrations.

They where hard to find when I bought them and had back-ordered them from 2 different places thinking I would keep whichever one came first and cancel the second one. Of course both knives showed up at my house on the same day.

I have hung on to both for now, but i don't really need two of them. Both are brand new, exactly as they where deliver to me. Neither one has been carried or used to cut anything and they both have the original factory edge.

If either one is what you have been shopping around for, shoot me an email and I will give you a killer deal on one of them and save you some $.

Jmorton, thanks for the offer; if they where the uncoated blades, I likely would have taken you up on that offer. But--on that note--to make such generous offers, I believe you have to have Gold Membership. If you have purchased that, don't forget to update your profile to reflect it. Again, thanks.

Lycosa--indeed I will. So much so, the Ubr Commander made it onto my radar--though I cannot find a place that sells them (except for Emerson's site). The regular sized Jungle Commander looks very cool too... and the super commanders speak to me as well. Nonetheless, a super 7 will find its way into my hands... I have a 6th sense about these things ;)

Just to update you good folks...

CQC Super 7 inbound. Found a great deal, $153 and change, shipped; there were four when I got there , so three left. I emailed with the vendor and he is selling his stock at a discount and not caring Emerson anymore. I asked him detailed questions and he assured me the knife was without the quirks or slight defects that sometimes raises the ire of Emerson consumers. If you want to know which vendor, message me--I'll let you know (I don't think that they are paying merchants here).

Thanks to all who helped me with this... choice? Madness! But what fun it is!

Pics when I get it...
