Hi Fellas,

I am about to purchase my first Emerson, just need a push. :p
Have been reading a lot of the older post's here, seems the chisel grind,is a yea or nay issue.
The description on this model says, "This knife, the "A" model, features a reinforced spear point blade, double V grind"
Is this what I think it is? ie a normal grind on both sides of the blade, and not a chisel? If so, do any of you boyzz have one?

I really would appreciate your view.

Thanks,

Dave

The chisel ground blades are totaly flat on one side and ground on the other.
The EKI "V" ground blades are ground on both sides but the actual cutting edge is only ground on one side.

I personaly like it but I know of people who are less fond of that set up.

Thanks Haze for the quick response!
Sooo, do you sharpen this model as per usual, say like my Para Millie?
Or..is this a whole different thing ...

There is no big difference in sharpening EKIs over any other knife TBH.

You just need to push the burr over on one side then strop it or use a fine ceramic to gently take it off.

This is the same for the true chisel ground blades as well, I suppose you could say its easier than
sharpening a real "V" ground bevel but sharpening is sharpening at the end of the day.

Thank you, for the pointers, basically then, just sharpen one side and remove the burr. Seems this model should be a good edc then.

dc50, you need to order at least one, if not more! And as far as the factory cutting edge on the knife, if you don't like it you can put any type edge you want on it. So don't let that hold you back! Now go order that baby............

The question is...Did you order that Emerson yet??
:D

Yep I ordered it!

Last night after a few shots of Tequila, :p It's always dangerous to look at Knife stores online, when drinking.

Thanks guy's, it should be here next Thursday.

Well she came in today!

I'll tell you what, fellas, this knife was made for me,I absolutely love it. :D
It's nice simple no frills, tough liner lock,of course sharp as heck, lets hope I can keep it that way. As you can tell I'm a Spydie guy, and will always be, but
I think I will get me one more, of these EM's cause one needs to change up once in a while, right? :p The next one that seems to fit my style is the
E-A100SF

My wife and I purchased a nice Olympus digi camera four months ago, and still haven't dared to try taking some knife pic's and load them on to the computer.
Sure whish one of our son's would come home for a visit and show, the ole bugger how to use it.

Peace Out,

Dave

Hey dc50,

I'm a Spyderco guy too. I've never owned an Emerson, but have two coming later this week.
A Mini Commander and a CQC-14. Should I be excited? I am.:D

You bet!

There grass roots knives..a nice change for sure.
For those days when you feel like being a good ole boy :p

dc50---I know! I started off with Spyderco and here's my route> Reeve, Emerson, SOG, Mission, Case, back to Spyderco, Warren Thomas, and now---Emerson. I think I have a grip---for now.

Lycosa...It's quite the journey isnt't it :p

I started a few years ago with a simple Opinel, then all manner of Scandi hunting knives, to Bark River. From there, Sog,Kershaw, a few Cold Steel then
some Benchmade's. The last 2 years Spydies ** and now my first Emerson.:D

I sure do like the look of that new Chokwe Spydie though, a must have for sure.

I've got high expectations for the Emersons on the way. Hope they don't disappoint!

i finally got my emerson. i love it! i took it completely apart with nothing but my thumbnail and a small philips head, cleaned excess shavings out of nooks and crannies, put it back, and i love it! it's good to be back

it is a 2008 cqc7a
