Evil Steel, welcome to Bladeforums. You will get lots of opinions here!
I keep a MOD CQD and a CQD Mark II by the front door, in case I want a hard use knife with me, large or small. I've used them for brush clearing. They are about as indestructible as folders get, on a level with the Extrema Ratio and Strider folders.
I have never seen anything like blade play or even pivot loosening in the CQD, although I do tighten the Mark II from time to time. I got both of them second hand and the Mark II had seen good service.
You will find, over time here, that certain members of the forum have a habit of whining, especially about knives they personally dislike. Wait for the alternate opinions, and evaluate who really uses the knives, and who crafts their opinions out of hot air.
Flicking. We see great arguments over which knives can take it and which can't, but I cannot recall a clear statement as to what constitutes "flicking".
I generally open my knives smoothly and slowly, controlling the blade all the way out. Snapping them open, even by the thumbstud or opening hole, can fling the knife out of a careless grip. Snapping them open with additional centrifugal force by adding wrist action, exacerbates that problem.
It also creates obvious shock of metal on metal -- blade tang on stop pin or studs on the bolster. Why would you want to generate that much stress except on a few, hopefully rare occasions when a fraction of a second saved is critical? Isn't control of your knife more critical than speed?
Be sure the CQD is the right size knife for you then go ahead and get one. If you do get a lemon, which is highly unlikely, they'll take care of it. More likely, you will find you have a knife too big and strong for most ordinary carry. (That's why I got the Mark II for backup.
