CR Fluorinated Grease vs other lubricants

I've tried everything under the sun to lube my Sebenzas, from mineral oil, CLP Break-free CR Fluorinated grease etc..... I"m interested in knowing what other members are using to lube your knives.

I figure if Chris recommends something and then supplies it with his knives then use it. He's done a lot of testing and research. I've never tried anything else.

Before I started using the CRK grease, I tried Blue lube, didn't like it' it oozed everywhere, got on the lock face and made a mess. I do use it on my ZT bearing knives. After I cleaned the Blue lube off and wiped everything down with alcohol, I put some white lithium grease on and it worked fine. Did that with several CRK's, then I started using the CRK grease and been there since.

Used to use CRK grease, tried nano oil and while it's awesome and it slicked up the action on my Sebenza, the feel of the action is nicer with a thicker lube, IMO. I'm using the Finish Line Extreme Fluoro now, and like it better than the CRK so far. I think it's just a touch more viscous and makes the action smoother than the CRK grease. Time will tell, but I'm loving it so far.

I use the Finish Line grease also. I tried the CRK grease, and the Finish Line seems very similar, but it's a lot cheaper, and the syringe comes with a very nice fine tip applicator. Now I use it on all my knives.

Thats what I was looking for Thanks,(Finish Line Extreme Fluoro) just ordered it off Amazon. CRK is great stuff but expensive for a small amount and poor applicator. I didn't mind paying the price for CR grease with the older syringe applicator.

I was just looking at that stuff today and thinking about buying it..I will hold off until the 3-4 tubes I have of the CRK flourinated are gone..I may be pushing up daisies by then though. ;)

I've used white lithium grease, seemed to work pretty well. That was only because that's all I could find locally. I've got a new large 21 on the way, and will opt for the CRK grease when it gets here.

Presently using Super Lube grease and oil both with PTFE(Teflon). Not sure how it compares to CRK grease but both are FDA approved

Don't mess with the rest when you've already got the best! I've used a variety of lubes but CRK fluorinated grease works best for me, and it'll probably work best for you too.

I use blue lube on my slipjoints and lockbacks but crk grease on all of my frame locks. (Crk and others) I tried several different things, but crk grease seemed to work the best and does not require frequent application to be effective.

The Finish Line stuff is every bit as good as the CRK stuff but comes in a much better container. Price is kind of a non factor when you consider the price of the knives we are talking about here. CRK really needs to go back to the syringe bottle.

Agreed, and I've think its a little better.

Even if the CRK lube was superior to the others, the tube it comes in is just not acceptable. You get a small amount of expensive lube packaged in a tube that is vulnerable to drying out. The tube also makes it difficult to precisely apply the lube.

I tried straight up Nano Oil in my 25, and it worked good...for a while. The action over time became stiffer. I actually didn't realize it as fast as I should because I use my knife all the time. When I finally took it apart (almost a year), the oil had dried up and it was basically just the washers and Ti slabs! I applied CRK grease and haven't looked back..

Iregardless of your choice of grease, can I get a consensus of how you're applying it?

Once you've taken your knife apart, are you just putting a little dot of grease on the washers and reassembling to let it work itself around? Rubbing the greased washer between your thumb and finger to get a light coating prior to reassembly? On the frame? Curious on how you guys are using it.

I rarely disassemble my knives unless there seems to be a need to and my usual method is just every now and then if I think of it, I put a couple tiny drops of Militec-1 into the pivot area with a needle applicator. And I'll clean out the blade channel area with some wooden skewers and dry gun patches to get the lint and crap out.

I think I might try that. My tube is almost empty. I use the stuff pretty frequently, since I work around dry wall dust, saw dust and other construction debris.
It seems like I've got to clean it every month or so, plus I've started using it on most of my other knives.

Exactly. No offense to anyone, but I shake my head a bit when I read these sorts of threads. I bought a tube of the CRK grease back in 2009 (when my CRK came with none) and that tube looks to be essentially 90% full to this day. Are you guys buttering your toast with this stuff?!? I cannot see running out anytime soon.
