CR Pacific vs. Rat 6 vs. Fehrman Last Chance

Fehrman for sure. 3V is very tough, holds an edge *much* longer than S30V, IMO. Fehrman knives are very high quality, I love mine.

You guys are bastards, little steel slingin' bastards.

All this talk about Fehrman blades and I have to go check 'em out more closely.

Next thing I know I've ordered a Fehrman Last Chance.

I hope you're happy now.
:D

Very nice blade, I own one myself

Nah, that's crap. When you ask a question like the one you did, you are asking for people's opinions. Who knows how they are formed. When it comes to CRK, though... well, let's just say it got pretty ugly...

My own personal experience with CRK: I own a Project I, which is part of their one piece range. Its a 7,5 inch spearpoint, with a hollow handle.

It does everything I have asked of it, including batoning through hard wood, which is about as roughly as I am prepared to treat my knives. It did the task very well indeed. It is made of A2 though, which has different properties to S30V. It holds a terrific edge and is easy to sharpen. What more do you want from a knife. I would feel very comfortable with my Project I in any type of situation which called for a large blade.

Like I said before - it is a personal choice. Far more important than the opinions here, would be trying the knife out personally. Nothing worse than a knife that doesn't fit your hand, particularly if you are planning to do heavy work with it.

So people really think that CR knives are for show only?

Yeah, they should post warnings on the home page: Do not join unless you are prepared to sacrifice your kids' higher education! :D

Well, waiting for me at home today was the new Fehrman Last Chance. I now forgive you guys -- first impression is that this is a great knife.

The Last Chance has a little ol' 5.5" blade but the knife feels like a big chunk of steel. Balance is handle heavy because of the big handle and full tang. Oh yes, the handle is big, but comfortable, and is designed for multiple different grips. I am impressed with the fit and finish. I'm totally diggin' the blade design and am eager to give it a work out.

In comparison--remember I have big hands--I prefer the Fehrman to the Pacific or RAT in terms of handle/grip ergonomics. In terms of Blade shape, I prefer the Fehrman and Pacific to the RAT, but everyone has his or her own ideas here.

Having handled all 3, I'm glad I own the Fehrman. Thanks for prompting me to consider the Fehrman guys! :D
