Crack along spine of Damascus knife

Here is the other knife I got from the same maker, blank was from same US place, damned if I can find them again, I had when getting info about them.image.jpg

What happened to the choil area on that knife? Was he new to making knives?

I hate to be critical but there's a big block there. I would've liked to see it contoured back to the handle, like a normal choil would've been.

Why not just say who the seller/maker is? I see no reason for secrecy at this point.

You bought a knife. The knife is obviously flawed. You contacted the maker. He told you that there's nothing wrong with the knife.

I'd say whatever courtesy the maker was due ended when he told you that an obviously flawed knife is fine.

If we know who the maker is we can investigate his work.

There are lots of places in the US that sell "damascus" blanks, many of them are imported from overseas to have a US Seller so people get taken easier. 2 Finger Knife, dba Schenk also sells US made blanks, too. I used a few of theirs many many years ago. They were OK, but not all that great in my experience. Odd designs, short handle lengths, thick edges, etc.

I don't think a crack is good on any steel to begin with.
If someone sold you a car with a crack running the length of the hood and when questioned said "oh sure, it's fine, that's just natural with the metal" would ya fall fer it?
