Watching the vid's I had to have one. No doubt, the LOCK is bullet proof.
Now I usually don't abuse knives, but this is a case for sure. This is a tough knife and cuts very well, I do like AUS8 steel.
I was too aggressive with the baton and i guess I twisted the blade as well.
All my falt:barf:

You took out the coating, looks better.

Does not look like a crack, looks like the edge bent. Yeah the earlier ideas are good, get a new blade made out for it :)

I'd go for san mai if there is any :)

getting a new blade will cost much more if in 1095 because only one of our custom guys can do it. send it to cold steel & they will probably fix it for 25$.nothing wrong with aus8. i'm not critizing you but what were you batoning with a folder for.?

Good to know it can really take a beating :D

I'm sure the CS guys would be happy to take a look at your "work" :p

Is it cracked? t looks like only a small ding in the edge which should sharpen out in time. Also like a scratch 1/8" up from that. Is that a crack or a scratch?

kinda proves a theory of mine, that is that just because someone does it on youtube doesnt always make it a good idea to try yourself.

Yup, no doubt you've got a little "fault line" going on there. Why not just use it and enjoy it for EDC use - nothing like batoning. By appearance it shouldn't break from cutting cord, cardboard and such.

Just a thought...sorry she had a weak spot on you there. I'd have thought CS AUS8 would and apparently did bend rather than break, which appears to be what happened, when using it for hard use. I don't know about warranty on a stripped or modded CS knife. Probably out of luck on this one.

Did it happen before or after the coating was stripped? Just curious & probably makes no difference. Lesson learned on hard use / abuse - it can be a fine line. :(

Batoning with a folder that has a blade profiled for slicing, hmmm didn't see a problem coming there...

If I were you, I'd email Jedi Master Demko and see about a custom blade for the little feller.

Might just be a door closing, window opening kind of deal.

i dont think stripping off the coating would void warranty... cold steel black coating flakes off just by staring at it lol. imo its one of the worst coatings on the market today

$29.95 at Sears - Presto, no more broken folders. :D (and a lot cheaper than having a new blade made)

^THIS. Good god, man, use something meant for the purpose next time! :D

That sucks, though, you even went through the trouble of taking the coating off the blade...

Yep, AXES are good!:D .......but have no fear for, Blade Master is here and has a new blade already at the hardners and awaiting it's return. This one is a full flat grind, which I like better anyway. This knife is too good waste.;)

Boozoo Chavis!, my father in law worked at the Swift packing house many years ago with a Boozoo Chavis.:)

This strikes me as critical. The blemish, or whatever it is, could have been there, under the coating, before you even used the knife at all.

Really, on an AUS-8 blade, all the coating is there for is to look cool and hide blemishes on the steel.

Last weekend I had to use my SOG VIsionary I to baton to start a fire that a girl tried to light with thick boards of wood. After the batoning (done with care) the blade was still shaving sharp. I consider light batoning a task a folder should do, but the line that separates it from abuse is difficult to identify...
I also like AUS8, nothing special, but I like it.

That's interesting, AUS-8A is very tough steel, it will usually bend long before breaking or cracking.
