Trying to decipher from photo's if this Kelly Axe & Tool Co's pole is cracked or just some minor cosmetic mark? Any life in her?

Also I am looking at getting this Sandvik Made in Germany axe. It looks quite strange the eye is in the middle so the pole has been designed as a sledge hammer type thing by the looks of it? What do you reckon?

it's hard to tell but woah man, next time you're feeling like a trade let me know i'll see what i can do. if that is cracked, that's a small job if you want to put a band-aid on it, if you want the whole 9 yars, (bevelling it out and filling the hole crack) that's a whole nother enchilada. are they asking cheap for the head or is it expensive?

$15 USD for the kelly and $20 USD for the Sandvik. What do you think about the Sandy? I couldn't find another one similar anywhere online.

definitely interesting man, never seen a maul like that.

at that price i'd grab it in a heart beat but i dont know what it's like over there with you guys. it'd be a quick fix if it is cracked

honestly mate good axes are hard to come by and when they do they are usually in poor condition or expensive as hell!

Trying to find info online to date the kelly..

Thanks, I'll definitely pick her up, how does one repair a crack in an axe head pole if that is the case (band aid version)? my tool repairing knowledge is nil.

I suspect the poll on that maul may be hardened, so that you can pound splitting wedges with it. I'd deff. pick it up at that price.

Also, is that a Kelly Dandenong? That would make it a steal. That crack can be mended.

The only information I have is what is written on the head "Kelly Axe & Tool Co St Catherines Ont Made in Canada" - I really don't know whether it is or not??

find a welding shop, the band-aid version is to grind a small U shaped channel in the crack and ask them to run a bead or 2 on it, the complete proper way would be to create a 45 degree V groove all the way down to the bottom of the crack, that'd take for EVER and it'd require a lot of time spent in the booth welding but it would definitely hold.

if the poll is hardened, you've gotta go with the band-aid because there won't be much left of the original poll if the crack runs deep with the proper way.

Especially given your location, I'd say it is. Any real experts care to chime in?

"In 1965 the company officially became True Temper Canada, Ltd. and the works at St. Catharines were closed down" - Does that mean the Kelly I posted is pre 1965?
