After heating and forging metal, I find cracks in the metal when I start profiling. I heat to 1550 degrees. What is causing this. Thanks, Crackerjack

Could be cracks from trying to continue to shape the metal after it has cooled too much. What kind of metal are you using? If its leaf springs or the like, it could be stress fractures induced while it was still a spring... Just guesses of course. I'm a compete amateur, so anything I say is subject to correction by someone who knows better...

If you're only heating to 1550 I can guarantee you are working the material too cold.
