Craft Beer Snobs Unite!

I have a friend who runs a brewery tour business - lots of good ones near Chicago. Three Floyds, Two Brothers, and Goose Island to start - but lots of fun little guys around. Current favorite breweries include Tighthead, Finch, and Lake Effect.

^^ Short's Huma-lupa-licious, Darkhorse Crooked tree, Founders All Day IPA, Norm's Raggedy-Ass IPA, Bell's HopSlam and Two Hearted. (!!!) I'm an IPA guy, and those are the best!

If you ever get the chance to try some Louisiana IPA's, you need to try:

Tin Roof Brewing
Rougarou

Parish Brewing
Dr. Hoptagon
Ghost in the Machine - 98/World Class on Beer Advocate

Chafunkta Brewing
Voo Ka Ray Imperial IPA

NOLA Brewing
Mecha (formerly known as Mechahopzilla, until the Godzilla creators sued NOLA Brewing)

Old Rail Brewing has some insanely good IPA's, and they are right down the street from my house, but unfortunately, they don't bottle yet. Best part, Matt Horney (Old Rail's Brewmaster), is from Michigan! lol http://thealerunner.com/2013/07/17/old-rail-brewing-company-grand-opening-is-this-week/

Ha, too funny. Same school I went to as well. I'll keep an eye out for those though, no doubt. It's always fun trying new things.

Ok, snapped this today.

I live about a mile from Penrose Brewing in Geneva, IL (Chicago western suburb)

If you get a chance to try their Desirous White IPA or P2, do it.

Hey man, you ever head of Lazy Magnolia from Kiln, MS?
They have a Pecan beer that's amazing.

There's a new brewery opening soon in Raton, New Mexico. And I'm only a short distance from Colorado where microbreweries are abundant.

My taste buds say yes, but my gout says "no." :(
Until someone makes purine-free Scottish ale...

That doesn't sound too fun.

Speaking of the down side of craft beer, IPA farts are the worst.

Living in NorCal, I'm pretty spoiled on the craft beer scene.

Here's a couple faves I posted on the "Beer & Blades" topic in General:

I don't know how I missed this post, but yes, I've had plenty of brews from Lazy Magnolia.
I've even been to the brewery, back before it grew to it's new 17,000 sq ft building.
Southern Pecan is the beer you're thinking of, and it is a damn good Summer beer.

As a matter of fact, Lazy Magnolia was the bottling location for Bayou Teche for a good while.
Chafunkta Brewing, in Mandeville, also has their Kingfish Ale and Voo Ka Ray IPA bottled there.

My fiancee and I took the tour of the old building, located behind a machine shop next to the Stennis Airport.

Well, looks like was preaching to the quire then. :p

One thing I love about beer and knives, I can hear the same thing over and over, and it never bothers me :D

Lazy Mag's Timber Beast is their flagship DIPA, but it's only 60ish IBU's. I spoke with the owner/brewmaster as to why he doesn't like 80/90/100 IBU hoppy beers and his response was actually very interesting. I was told that your tongue can only handle up to around 100 IBU's. So, they are more keen on lower IBU session beers. Which is just dandy for you and I in this lovely Louisiana heat!

I live in Portland. I have...I dunno...5-6 microbrew pubs within a mile of my house. Something like that. It's pretty cool.:D I'm partial to the "black blood of the earth" beers. McMins Terminator, Pelican Tsunami stout, and my favorite is Hubs seven grain survival stout. It has a touch of coffee in it. Delicious. One of the places near my house(Sasquatch) has a lot of different good beers. Any of you guys try sour beers? They're pretty kick arse too. We have a place on the east side that specializes in it. It's a cross between a dark microbrew and champagne.

I love a good sour.....I was in Austin a few months back for a buddy's b-day and we made a day of touring 512, Independence, and Austin Beerworks. Austin Beerworks had a kickass sour called Soul-Glo, and as a bonus, it was served to me by Kyle Schutt of the Sword (guitarist in one of my favorite bands)...apparently he works there when they're not on tour!

Pew-Wee! I can't stand sours! Sours, Scotch Ales, and Saisons are on the no-go list for me.

My favorites (depending on the weather):
Barleywine - Barrel Aged or Not
Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout
Imperial Russian Stout
Chocolate or Coffee Stout
Imperial IPA
Black IPA
Dry Hopped IPA

In no particular order.

I had the 2015 Extra Hoppy Stone Brewing Old Guardian Barleywine over the weekend (boy is that a mouthful... lol) and Southern Tier's 2X Milk Stout.

My dad brought me back a few from Houston
He said he would try one, dislike it, then pour the rest out.
Needless to say, he brought me back three "5 packs" of beer. :p

The Hopadillo IPA I thought was the best.

I always enjoy trying new beers from foreign lands... I mean... other states :D

Went to the local burger joint, down the street from my house, and found out that Oskar Blues has made it's way to Louisiana!

Oskar Blues Dale's Pale Ale

Two weekends ago, we made our way to Gnarly Barley in Hammond, LA. Our good friends and owners of Gnarly Barley, Zac & Cari, were having their 1 year anniversary at the brewery. $10 got you a 1 year snifter, 5 pours (3 pours of your choice, 1 pour of their limited Raspberry Catahoula Common, & 1 pour of their Buffalo Trace Barrel Aged Korova Milk Porter!). I lucked out and got a second pour of the barrel aged porter. It's one of my absolute favorites!

Oskar Blues Deviant Dale's IPA

OB hasn't been in Louisiana very long and I've already had the Pale Ale and IPA. I'm very happy with both. They are excellent sessionable beers.

Are you on allopurinol? There is also a new anti-gout medicine out there. I have chronic gout and the medicine has made all the difference. I haven't had a real flare up in 3 or so years. If you do start, you will get some immediate flare ups, don't know why but must irritate the situation in the beginning.
