Craftsman 2X42 and static

Its not just the 2x42, most grinders, especially with pyroceram platens, build up static from the belt traveling over the platen. I have heard of people grounding the frames of their grinders to help prevent this. Simple aligator clamps and wire can be enough.

I'm putting a glass platen on mine as we speak.. if I get static I'll probably scratch off some paint and ground it with the gator clip idea.. cheap easy fix.

Just a bare wire to the floor works. That's an easier path than through you to the same point. On a machine where you can get to the actual ground wire for the motor that's the logical spot, but it's not worth the work on the 2x42.

I guess I am always touching my machine but I dont seem to have a problem with static. I have a ceramic tile piece cemented to the platen as well which I highly recommend. That plus the other mods you can do to it, like removing the side cover and cutting the rest (forgot what its called) to aid in belt changes. Makes it so much easier. I still want to add a little handle knob to help with adjusting where the belt rides.
