Craftsman 2x42

A buddy of mine upgraded and gifted me his Craftsman, I took it apart and hooked it up to a 1/2 HP x 1725 rpm motor, and have it mounted on a rack that I can adjust to accept 48" belts.
Been working out pretty good.....although I am not a knife maker so don't grind on a lot of metal.

Wow, helluva setup you got there ray! Is there any possibility you did a WIP of that? *fingers crossed* :D

Sorry BC...no WIP but I can send you a blow by blow of how I did it.....I have to organize those thoughts at work today, will get back on this PM.
I can tell you that everything is built around the motor you are able to come up with....plus I asked my iron worker buddy to bend a single piece of channel for my rack and he showed up with what you see. It could probably serve as a car jack!
It turns out I use it more than the stock Craftsman you see sitting next to it.:D

Great, thanks ray! I'm looking to pimp this grinder out. I might not have the cash for a KMG but I'm gonna mod myself one helluva Craftsman

I was wondering how you got the monster rack...Sears didn't mention anything about it on their website ;)

That is very cool! I don't see any reason you could not make it fit 2x72 belts? How about adding a third pulley/contact wheel?

Look through here, you'll get some ideas:

When my bud gave me this one, I already had a new Craftsman, only a year old. So I thought I would just do something with this one, like slow it down some, so I found a 1725 rpm motor, than I also wanted to use up some 48" belts I had....turns out they were old and dried out so they broke apart in about a half a minute.
You'll see in the picture, all I really did was cut the housing apart to free up the drive wheel, and kept the tracking wheel and what's left of the housing intact.
Mounted the drive wheel to the motor, measured where to mount the housing to the King Kong rack (it's kind of over-kill but my iron worker buddy who made it for me builds bridges and 30 story buildings, so that's just how he does things. Drilled holes and mounted the housing......good to go.
Measure 6x, drill once:p
