Well I doodit. I cut a slot in my Cold Steel pocket clip to lighten the spring so I dont have to call on a passer by to help me haul my little pocket knife out of my pocket.
First off I have to say, when clipped to my winter weight pants, it wasnt enough and I will have to remove more steel from the clip to freeer up even more.
But figured I would post a photo of what I did and how much is still very firm incase someone is wanting to do the same.
I can fit a nickel in the slot with room to spare for a piece of printer paper or there abouts.
I stacked three Dremel abrasive discs on a mandrel and cut the width you see in one pass. I made a quick swipe or two with a flat rectangular diamond grit file to knock off enough of the rough edges to keep from damaging me or my pocket. I did not finish the edges of the slot because I wanted to test the clip for a day or two to tell if she was friendly. Well it didnt take days, it took about two seconds to determine at least another millimeter of metal needs to be removed from the clip.
Happy grinding !
(or braiding if you want to take the safe and sane approach others have recommended).
I cut off more material from the clip. Finally got near to good enough.
Then smoothed some of the gription from the scale just under the clip using cloth backed silicon carbide sand paper.
It is now just about right. Grips but is removable from my pockets.
The slot wound up being 3 mm (1/8 inch) wide.
I achieved this width by adding two more discs to the stack of Dremel abrasive discs and making one more pass.
Each disc is 0.55 mm wide.
Five discs in the stack total.
First photo is the first slot width the second photo is the final width.
