I thought I'd share a few pics from the last couple of weeks. Week before last the wife and I stayed down at the fish camp. Had a great time and did pretty well. Over this weekend we went out saltwater fishing with a fella that has retired down where our family fish camp is. Weather has been great and we have been fortunate enough to find time to get out in it.
Here are some pics of the crawfish traps. We just drop them off the side of one of the walks, baited with canned cat food with a few holes punched in them. The bait will last several days, I usually check them every morning. Last week I was averaging about three or four dozen per trap every morning. Taking them out further in the backwater would have been better, but we were not fishing the same spots everyday, and backtracking for the traps would have been troublesome. I plan to run a line in the next few weekends to see how many pounds I can pull in a day.

A trap dumped out, I cull though them, turning the little ones back to grow for a few weeks:

They are starting to get some size to them, they grow fast in the warm weather:

Dead Lakes in Northwest Florida, the camp is about 25 miles inland from the Gulf of Mexico. Butted up to the Apalachicola National Forest. The saltwater pics are from the Gulf and St.Joe Bay, about thirty minutes from the camp.

Hell Yeah! You can't beat that sort of fishing.

Sweet pics! Always nice to see people out and having fun catching fish! Never ate crawfish before, though. For some reason just don't think I would like them. I will stick with other things. :D

Awesome thread. Now that just looks like a lot of fun. Kudos for cutting up the stomachs to see what they are eating!

Great pic's ....I took the family out fishing yesterday eve. just haven't had time to down load the pics :
Thanks for sharing your trip !

Hey Matt, amazing pics, and I owe you an apology, I had some issues while I was in tally and couldn't get the time to meet you, I didn't had internet access, so that made things worse and I wasn't able to get in touch with you. The family I was staying with made plans for all my days up there and there was no time for any kind of outdoor activity.
After seeing pictures like these I feel really bad for not being able to get together with you guys. but I will be going to FL again and next time I will make sure that I have plenty of time to do what I want.
I'm so sorry man.
ps.: the good news is that I was able to get some nice gear: lots of maxpedition stuff, nalgene SS bottles, a tilley hat, a gerber hatchet and a fallkniven F1. hooray!
