Anyone have any experience with Crawford knives? I'm thinking of picking up one or two, and was recommended by a friend. But I've had no personal experience with them.

I have 3 right now and plan to pick up a couple more from him. I got to handle several of his knifes at recent knife show and they were all excellent quality. Here's a link to the pic of the three I have. http://www.bladeforums.com/ubb/Forum60/HTML/000126.html
If you want more detail send me and email about one and I'll try to let you know what I can about it.

Brad 1407--I'm receiving for review three of his knives: The mini Kasper folder, and two slightly different Covert Operatins folders. Know anything about them?

Paladin,

Pat makes excellent knives.

DrJ,

Actually the best fighting folder out there is the limited edition (200) Applegate Folder made by Butch Vallotton/Bill Harsey.

The bade was 4 1/4", spear point, Double edge, serrated thumb ramp, ambidextrous thumb stud.

The Handle was titanium frame, liner (that had a flattened and serrated liner lock release. Very egrgonomic handle with grooves cut into the linen micarta handle.

Because of the ergonomic design, the knife was very maneuverable in your hand. This was important as this allowed you to take advantage of the double edge. A very nice feature for "close in work".

If you were to be in a knife fight a double edge blade gives you twice the opportunity to eliminate the problem at hand.

I do not own any right now, but I have sold a few over the years. Pat (and Wes) make excellent knives and I would have no reservations working with them.

I've handled his mini Kasper. I like the larger one personally. The mini's I got play with had a real solid lock up and seemed very sturdy. A full size KFF and a devil dart are next on my list from him.

I have a custom titanium KFF that I got from Pat. Really cool guy, and an extreme pleasure to talk to. Give him a call, I'm sure you won't regret it!

Les--What would a Vallotton-Hersey Applegate/Fairbairn go for these days? How would I go about finding one?

Pat & Wes Crawford make some of the finest working custom folders around. I personally have a fondness for his Point Guard and Shark. I've also played with a KFF and was very impressed. Its something you just have to handle personally to appreciate the precision craftsmanship involved. Worth every cent of the price.

DrJ,

Was your training in the use of a knife primarily through a European or Asian style?

Paladin,

They show up every once in a while. They run in price between $600 and $700.

Les--Why would a Vollotton Appleton/Fairbairn folder be available at $399? I found one on the Nordic knives web page, #75 of 100 at that price. Are there different types of the V-H A/F's?

I've bought a couple of their folders (gentleman's type, with a unique overhead blade release) for friends and they've been very happy with the performance. Pat & Wes are also very nice to deal with and stand behind their product.

Good buy Paladin! Is Dave Harvey the owner of Nordic? Couldn't find a name anywhere on the Nordic site.

Brad

Thanks, Brad. I just couldn't let that one get by me. Checked out various prices on the net, and all were in the $500-600 range Les had mentioned. Having bought from Nordic before, I know this will be a solid piece that just happened to be at the right price at my right time.
