Took Pit Jr to a lake today and we decided to go Crayfish hunting !

First we had to spy the Crayfish.....

Then we dropped in the lure, some prime Canadian Bacon should do the trick.....

If you are wondering where Mrs Pit is - she was working!!

It has been years and years for me but is that Spectacle lake? Or maybe Durance? I remember as a kid catching crayfish in both of those and that looks a lot like one of them, but I can't remember which!

I am thinking Spectacle but it's probably been twenty years since I was there!

Great pics, we used to get about twenty of those guys and have a little meal! It was like micro-lobsters...very micro-classy!

I always carry a couple of bags of Zatarains crab boil in my cooking kit. Nothing better than fresh mud bugs boiled in crab boil. Peel and slice some cattail stems from below the water line and serve with rice.

;)

I normally just boil them with some minced onions and seasoning salt for 2 minutes, and then let them sit for 15 minutes in the water to absorb some of the flavor. I actually ate some monday, that I caught from a creek on my property. Put one of those pink hotdogs in a minnow trap, and come back in about 24 hours and see what you've got. I had 46, this past time. :D
