This arrived yesterday. It was made for my wife by forumite Crayola. It has definately got to be one of the prettiest knives I have seen in a long long time. Workmanship is outstanding, and it is obvious to me that it will prove as useful as it is pretty. It is leaving tomorrow and will be on its way to Michael Cooper in Florida to have a sheath made. When it returns from Mike's, my wife will begin using this. She was thrilled when she saw the knife (she was not aware it was being made) and is even more excited to get it back after Mike makes one of his well done sheaths.

Cray, you nailed this thing perfect.

After it returns, and has been carried and used, expect a full review from my wife on how it performs.

Very nice, Rich!

Outstanding job Karl, and I know Mike will do a nice job with the sheath..... Enjoy!

That is a great looking knife and I have to admit I didn't know Karl's knifemaking skills had advanced this far. This isn't what I remember his knives looking like. Maybe I haven't been paying attention or maybe this is just the best picture I've seen of one of his knives recently.

BTW, has there been any word from Karl? Or is he still on his honeymoon?

Well, Im with you Phil, I really didnt realize he could turn out such fine knives. We had been discussing it for quite some time. Over the months Karl had sent a few emails with pics of the knife as it progressed. He was able to work on it in his spare time, which was rare for him what with getting ready for his wedding and in general I think he has a fairly busy life.

I saw a drawing he had done of the original plan for the knife, and he sent a pic of the rough blade after he had cut out the profile. And he described what he intended to do for the handle, grinds, finish and so on.

To be honest, I was expecting him to put in the effort and really try, but I wasnt all that sure what to expect.

I really was not expecting the package when it showed up either. I thought with his wedding and everything, maybe the knife had been delayed until a later time.

I was not prepared for how well the knife turned out. Its workmanship, grinds, finish, scales and handle wrap are done with the skill you would expect from a long time maker whose work you would pay some good money for. There are a few small touches done to the knife that you would expect from high end stuff, things that some makers may fail to consider.

Karl really hit one out of the park with this one. Knives of this quality would do very well at a knife show and folks would be happy to have a shot at getting one of these. I wanted a special knife for my wife, Karl knew that and it shows that he worked extremely hard to do just that.

Yes Phil, I have heard from him recently. He emailed me Tuesday to tell me he had shipped the knife the Friday before. His email arrived about 20 minutes after the knife showed up :) I emailed him back, and have not heard from him. I assume his internet access is pretty limited at this time. But I can say that he is around and kicking, and apparently back from his honeymoon.

Karl, Im sure I speak for all of us chat maggots when I say we hope to see you back in there very soon. You would have loved to have been here when I gave the knife to Charlotte, she was thrilled and in agreement with me that the knife is simply beautiful.

Oh yeah, the thing came razor sharp.

Good job Crayola

Thats a very good looking piece.

Congrats to the maker and new owner

That is a real neat-looking little knife. Nice photo too. Congrats!

Ahhh..Mr. Rejman. One of the true gentlemen amongst us all.

I'm hopin' that guy has the best of everything. Nice guy, smart guy, and obviously an expert craftsman.

Cool! Thanks for sharing the pix, Richard! I'm thinking Karl will be the next "must have" maker in our collections in a few years.

Wow! Congrats Rich. As a fellow owner of a Crayola knife, I'm jealous.
Karl is really coming along as a maker.
The last I talked to Karl he was back from his honeymoon, enjoying married life and doing good.

YYup Karl is getting better and better with every knife. He is also a great guy to deal with or just talk knives. The honeymoon doesn't end with the flight back :) Great job on this one Cray.

Well, holy crap is all I can say.

Richard, GLAD the knife arrived sooner than my e-mail! I wish all knife transactions were that way! I'm glad your wife likes her partner. I look forward to performance reviews (good or bad), as well as pics of the knife all dressed up in a sweet Cooper kydex rig!
Thanks all for your comments. Fortunately I have had the support of many forumites through my knife making endeavors. Guys like Richard and DB make it possible for me to do my thing, as they pay me for my knvies and enjoy them at home. That buys me enough steel, belts, and micarta to try the next knife. Also, guys like Mike Cooper, Kit Carson, and Galloglas have allowed me to ask many a question and get many an answer back. I have learned a bazilligazillion things from knife friends here.
One fault of mine is that I am slow. I grind in spare time. The last 7 years of my life I spent working on 3 university degrees and marrying a smart, beautiful and caring (and HOT!) nurse, my heighschool sweetheart. Somehow inbetween all that I foung the time to think about knives, design some knives, chat about knives, and even grind a few. Luckily for me, some folks found those knives neat enough to tak ehome and leve me with some cash to buy more supplies. As much as Richard and his wife may get out of this knife, I have already gotten 10 times more out of the project. My last couple projects taught me what custom knives are really about.

Thanks all, and I'll try to finish up some more cool stuff soon!

Karl, glad to see you here. Enjoy the married life, its a great life.

I would not call it a fault that you might be slow. You have plenty to keep you busy, and in your spare time, if you continue to turn out knives of this quality, then you will definately find plenty of homes for them with people who appreciate a functional knife with stunning looks.

Since I no longer can participate in chat...

Congrats Richard, it's really wonderful to be pleasantly surprised by something like this. Hope the performance complements the aesthetics well, it looks like a gem!

Good job Crayonman. I really like the way you put this thing together and it's really great to see you turning out stuff that impresses guys like me. Keep it up and you'll probably develop more of a following than you or the Mrs. would be willing to handle :D

The Newnet servers all require Identd to be running, and my building's router I guess blocks the identd port. Since it is not a router that I have control over, I can't really do anything about it. So every time I try to log on, I am instantly K-lined.

Bummer Robert. Hope you will pop in whenever you are at a computer that is able to get there.

Woah, I missed this one.

Great looking job Cray. Keep it up ;) .
