Crazy Concealment Carry Idea... What do you think?

So I know this sounds "mall ninja"ery but sometimes I am just in the mood to carry a large fixed blade rather than my usual BK14 or Esee 3. Nothing makes me feel secure like a giant junk of steel on me that will never fail or let me down. Even though where I am it would be perfectly legal to open carry a sheath on my leg or whatever, my general preference is to conceal which is also legal (I just like to keep my tools private and don't think it is any body's business what I am or am not carrying). So I was thinking about a crazy idea...

What if I cut out the interior of my front right pocket. If I rigged a drop down sheath to wear under my jeans, I could access it through my fake pocket and no one would ever have to know. My other pockets could surfice for carrying my usual belongings. Anyways, just wandering if any of you fellow knife nutz thought or even tried anything like this or similar.

As if my wife didn't think I was crazy enough... this might put her over the edge :)

Maybe it's just me, but once you start modifying your clothes or creating "fake pockets" you're taking it a little too far. The weather is getting cooler, wear your large knife on your belt and just wear a jacket over it.

I think it is actually a bit of a better idea to either make yourself a chest rig with a cordlock and a bead - similar to how you can see some underarm holsters. You could also use a jacket rather than your pants. I think you might cut your pants off you to some degree drawing that thing. Then you'd just be a half naked guy with a large knife. It'd make for a good photo.

And check your state and local knife laws. Your idea would be illegal in California where I live.

Might work, might not. I don't know, but why go to such legths? Just how big a blade are we talking here? Mike Sastre, for example, makes some fine concealable sheaths for knives as big as the Cold Steel Trail Master that hide the knife exceptionally well (at least from his pics I've seen) and require no mods to your clothing.

1) The knife may be hard to pull, because the sheath is going to try and pull out with it.

2) I would be able to spot it, and so would any law enforcement. You say it's legal in your area, but they may still ask you what you're trying to hide.

3) It is going to print for sure when you sit down. For anybody to see.

I carry FB sometimes. Leg carry is your safest bet. Wear baggy jeans or cargoes.

Most sheaths are inadequate for CC. You need a sheath with curved edges, and tiedowns at top and bottom to keep your pants from getting wrapped up. Flat edges, any flat edges, on your sheath, are going to show up.

Wait...is the knife handle unconcealed and sticking up though the pocket? Or, while being attacked, would you have ask the bad guy to wait while you root around inside your pants for your knife?

Seems like you would be losing valuable deployment time.

Wow, a lot of quick and intelligent responses. Yes, it was prob not the best/practical idea but fun food for thought. The shoulder holster styled carry is the only way i have really ever gotten the larger fixed blades carry to work. I have tried scout carry but it always shows at the end points. I will have to look into the Mike Sastre sheaths and other large fixed blade custom sheath ideas.. thanks for the recommendation. As for the size I was thinking, maybe esee 5/bk5 or bk7 would be fun. Where I live you can be in the middle of miles and miles of woods or in an urban environment with in 5 minutes of eachother (driving). For this reason, I have carried smaller FB's in the urban areas and larger ones when hiking or in the more rural areas. I am just thinking of a way to get away with carrying a large fixed blade regardless of my plans. As I noted before, thx to knife friendly laws here, the legality of the carry is not an issue. thx for the input guys.

A three point chest rig made with para cord with a vest or a jacket on top might be better if your built is large enough.
Sticking a blade down your pants is gonna start to poke out when you life your leg up over 90 degrees and a few thing might happen, the handle might pop out, the blade might shift diagonally across your leg or slide to your right side with the tip down and that will just look weird no matter how you rig it.
Unless you stitch the sheath into the inside of your pants, but that wont be very comfortable when you try to kneel since your thigh is expanding when in that posture.

oh yah and lololol Szilard. no i certainly do not want to be that guy.

A necker is the way to go IMO. Shoulder harnesses and ninja pockets are not going to win you points among the sheeple. Eventually someone would notice and think the worst. If you absolutely need to CC a knife bigger than a necker you're probably better off with a large folder.

I was thinking chest rig or necker. If the knife is too long to conceal hanging under your shirt then it is probably too big to EDC in public.

I've got a Cold Steel GI Tanto here in my office and that thing would conceal easily under my T-shirt hanging as a neck knife. I would just need a piece of bead cord and I'd be set.

i slide the knife it down my pants and let only the handel out and let my shirt cover. I have done that to a old pair of shorts but i dont like cutting my pockets if you dont care about cutting them yes it works.

Real men fight naked.

Those southern comfort sheaths from river city sheaths look cool. How exactly do they work?
